The chilling final post of a rope jumper who was ‘thrown to her death,’ has been revealed.

Maria Eduarda Rodriguez de Freitas tragically died this weekend during a rope jump that went horrifically wrong, after staff seemingly failed to attach her safety equipment.

Rope jumping is a popular extreme sport, which differs slightly from bungee jumping as it uses a low-stretch, climbing-style rope, which allows users to fall and swing in a pendulum, rather than bounce back up like a bungee.

The 21-year-old victim was thrown from a bridge in São Paulo state, Brazil, with now-viral footage showing her being hoisted into the air in an airplane position with her arms stretched out wide.

But what the people filming the incident, and de Freitas herself didn’t know, was that staff appear to have failed to attached her safety equipment, causing her to plummet to her death 130 feet below the bridge.

Emergency services attended the scene and pronounced the young woman dead.

Maria Eduarda Rodriguez de Freitas alive immediately after fall

Despite being declared dead at the scene, reports have now suggested the victim was initially still alive immediately after the horrific fall.

According to the off-duty nurse who rushed to try and save her, Rayza Dias, de Freitas was still alive when she reached her.

Speaking to Brazilian TV network Domingo Espetacular, Dias said: “I scraped my whole hand because there’s a steep slope down there and only one rope for us to climb down.

“It was all covered in mud. I kept going down, down, we walked all the way.”

Revealing that de Freitas was still alive, the medical professional went on: “I even talked to her. I have a habit of joking and saying, ‘Nobody dies on my shift.’ And I told her, ‘Duda [Eduarda], nobody dies on my shift.’ Even though I wasn’t on my shift there.”

Three men arrested following the death

Three of the men operating the unlicensed rope jump have since been arrested and charged with homicide.

Two of the men reportedly vanished from the scene and had to be tracked down with a military helicopter prior to their arrest.

Local police are now investigating whether the men are culpable of homicide with eventual intent, which refers to when a person doesn’t have the direct intention but assumes the risk of killing, according to Brazilian news site Globo.

Three more people who work at the illegal site were also arrested and detained initially but were later released without charge.

Disturbing footage going viral

Incredibly disturbing footage of the moment the 21-year-old was thrown from the so-called Skeleton Bridge in Ponte do Esqueleto, has been going viral on social media.

In the clip, two mean can be seen wearing white helmets and holding de Freitas by her arms, while a third is behind holding onto her feet.

After she is thrown from the bridge, someone watching the whole ordeal can be heard screaming at the instructors to attach her cord.

The three men, meanwhile, can be seen wearing harnesses that seem to be attached to security rope.

“Guys, the rope!” has been translated from the shouts being made by onlookers. Among the crowd of people watching was de Freitas’ fiance according to cops.

Chilling final social media post

On the morning of her death, de Freitas made one final social media post, which appears much more haunting after she fell 130 feet to her death.

The young woman took to Instagram stories to share a post, which appears to show the view from the top of the bridge.

Next to it, she wrote in Portuguese, which has been translated in English to: “Who was the crazy person who let me jump off a bridge???”

Obviously this sentences carries a much darker meaning after what happened shortly after she made the post.

There are reported to be between two and four fatalities relating to rope or bungee jumping each year worldwide, with the majority of deaths linked to human error, such as incorrect attachment or mistakes with safety procedures. Other causes include equipment or anchor failures.
