A young boy claims he was reincarnated and had an eerily perfect memory of being a Hollywood star.

Reincarnation, also known as rebirth or transmigration of the soul, is the philosophical or religious belief that the non-physical essence of a person, sometimes called the soul or consciousness, begins a new life in a different physical form after biological death.

This ancient concept appears across numerous spiritual traditions, from Hinduism and Buddhism to certain branches of mysticism found in Western philosophy.

While reincarnation remains scientifically unproven and is often dismissed by skeptics as wishful thinking or the product of overactive imaginations, accounts of past-life memories continue to emerge with surprising regularity.

Whether these cases represent genuine evidence of reincarnation, extraordinary coincidence, or psychological phenomena we don’t yet fully understand remains a matter of intense debate.

One particular case involved Oklahoma schoolboy Ryan Hammond, who claimed he was the reincarnation of a man who had died 40 years before.

Startling revelation

At age five, he reportedly told his mother: “Mama, I think I used to be someone else.”

Understandably, Hammond’s parents were baffled by his claims of being a Hollywood star in a past life.

The schoolboy detailed an eventful past life, saying he was a famous actor from the 1940s and ’50s who had been married multiple times.

He could even recall his death, revealing his heart ‘exploded’ and that he headed towards ‘the light.’

Understandably, Ryan’s parents were completely baffled by their son’s claims.

His mother, however, rather than dismissing her child’s statements outright, decided to take a different approach.

She purchased a book about the Golden Age of Hollywood, hoping it might provide some clarity or perhaps help Ryan work through whatever he was experiencing.

As mother and son turned through the pages together, something remarkable happened – Ryan suddenly stopped at one particular photograph, pointing excitedly at a man in the image.

“That’s me!” he declared with absolute conviction.

The photograph showed several men, but Ryan had identified one specific individual.

Through subsequent research, his mother discovered that the man Ryan had recognized was named Marty Martyn, a figure from Hollywood’s past who had died in 1964, some four decades before Ryan was born.

This discovery transformed the family’s private mystery into something that demanded further investigation.

Martyn, who died aged 61, reportedly began his career as a humble movie extra before making it as a Tinsel Town agent.

As word of Ryan’s claims spread, his story eventually attracted the attention of national media outlets.

A documentary crew became involved, arranging what would prove to be a pivotal meeting: they brought the then six-year-old Ryan to Los Angeles to meet Marty Martyn’s daughter.

During this emotionally charged encounter, the pair toured various Los Angeles sites connected to Martyn’s life.

According to reports, Martyn’s daughter confirmed several of the specific claims that young Ryan had made about her father’s life, details that would have been nearly impossible for a child in Oklahoma to know through conventional means.

The case also drew the professional interest of Dr. Jim Tucker, a respected child psychiatrist who has spent years studying cases of children who claim to remember past lives.

Dr. Tucker conducted a thorough investigation of Ryan’s claims, meticulously checking facts and cross-referencing the boy’s statements with historical records.

His findings were startling: Dr. Tucker concluded that fifty-five specific details Ryan had recalled were factually accurate.

Among these verified facts was Martyn’s actual birth date, which Ryan had stated correctly despite it being incorrectly documented in official records—something the boy could not have known from any available public source.

Verifying wild claims

Hammond’s wild claims eventually caught the attention of the national press and in a bid to prove they were true, a documentary crew arranged a meeting between the then six-year-old and Martyn’s daughter.

When the pair met, they toured numerous Los Angeles sites, and during the trip, she reportedly confirmed some of Hammond’s claims.

Amid the media hype, the youngster was interviewed by NBC News.

The broadcaster’s segment on Hammond, then 10, revealed that his story was being looked into by child psychiatrist Dr. Tucker, who believes his claims.

Dr. Tucker concluded that 55 things the youngster recalled were true, including Martyn’s actual birth date, which was incorrectly documented on records.

The psychiatrist said: “The world just doesn’t work as we think or assume it does. The cases I have examined don’t come under a normal explanation of how we perceive the world.”

A chapter or Dr. Tucker’s book, ‘Return to Life,’ explores the boy’s case in detail.

Over time, Hammond’s alleged memories of his past life began to fade but it’s been said he still shares many similar personality traits to Martyn, including his love of movies.
