A flight attendant has revealed the two popular drinks you should never order on a flight.

While air travel can be an exciting part of any journey, especially when indulging in airport treats and in-flight freebies, a cautionary warning that might make passengers think twice about what they drink during a flight has been issued.

Kat Kamalani, a former flight attendant with over a million followers on TikTok, recently shared a video highlighting the two drinks she advises travelers to avoid at all costs while flying.

According to her: “Don’t you ever, ever, ever consume these products from an airplane, from a flight attendant!”

She continued: “Rule number one: Never consume any liquid that is not in a can or a bottle.”

Kamalani explained that the reason behind this rule lies in the questionable cleanliness of the aircraft’s water systems.

“Those water tanks are never cleaned, and they are disgusting,” she claimed.

This statement raises concern, especially since many passengers regularly request hot beverages like tea and coffee on long-haul flights.

She went on to clarify that these hot drinks are just as problematic: “Talk to a flight attendant, we rarely, rarely, drink the coffee or tea. They come from the same water tank,” she said.

“And so when you’re drinking that coffee and tea comes from that hot water, and it’s absolutely disgusting.”

Adding to the issue is the location of the coffee machines on some aircraft.

Kamalani noted: “These little coffee guys, they are rarely cleaned unless they are broken. These guys are taken out and cleaned in between flights, but the whole machine is never cleaned, and they’re by the lavatories.”

Her advice: Stick to sealed cans and bottles if you’re thirsty mid-flight.

Backing up Kamalani’s concerns, former flight attendant Alex Quigley also spoke about the water quality in an interview with Delish.

“There’s no telling how often or when the tank was last cleaned,” Quigley said. “This is a beast for bacteria.”

He added: “I can be honest and say I NEVER knew or saw anyone empty and refill or wash them out in between trips.”

For parents flying with infants, Kamalani advised against requesting hot water to mix with baby formula. Instead, she suggested asking for a bottle of water and a separate cup of hot water.

She instructed: “Then make your baby a bottle with the bottled water. Put it in the cup and heat it up.”

According to the Mirror, the safety of in-flight water depends heavily on how often tanks are cleaned and maintained – something multiple reports have suggested is not consistently done, raising further concern about potential bacterial contamination.
