A horrifying simulation shows what happened to a man who was found trapped behind store shelves a decade after he was reported missing.

Larry Ely Murillo-Moncada was last seen by his family on November 28, 2009, after leaving home in a reportedly emotional state – barefoot and without his keys or car.

He was 25 years old and working at the No Frills supermarket in Council Bluffs, Iowa.

For years, Larry’s family had no information about his whereabouts and were left with unanswered questions.

Then, a heartbreaking discovery was made in 2019.

According to the BBC, relatives said that at the time of his disappearance, Larry had been experiencing hallucinations.

His mother, speaking through a translator, shared: “He was hearing voices that said ‘eat sugar.’

“He felt his heart was beating too hard and thought if he ate sugar, his heart would not beat so hard.”

Council Bluffs Police Captain Todd Weddum told CNN his parents believed Larry’s erratic behavior might have been influenced by the medication he was taking at the time.

It wasn’t until more than ten years later that the mystery of the 25-year-old’s disappearance was solved.

Larry’s remains were discovered in the very supermarket where he had worked. His body was lodged in an 18-inch space between a cooler and the wall.

A group of workers clearing out the store, which had been closed for three years, made the grim discovery. They were removing shelves and coolers when they made the finding.

The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation used DNA from Larry’s parents to identify his body. His clothing also matched the description of what he had been wearing when he vanished.

An autopsy confirmed that Larry’s death was accidental with no signs of trauma, reports the Des Moines Register.

Although not scheduled to work, Larry’s former employers noted that it wasn’t unusual for staff to enter the store outside shift hours.

Former colleagues explained that workers often went to the storage space above the coolers.

Investigators believe Larry entered the store after leaving home, climbed on top of the coolers, and tragically fell into the narrow gap between the coolers and the wall, becoming trapped.

Sergeant Brandon Danielson stated that the fall was approximately 12 feet and that the loud noise from the freezer units likely meant no one could have heard him.

After hearing his son’s tragic fate, Larry’s father, Victor Murillo, expressed his profound grief.

He told KETV: “Our heads are spinning, finding this out after so many years, and it is distressing, it makes us feel a lot of pain.”

Larry’s family was also perplexed by the fact the building had been closed for some time, yet no one noticed his body.

Former employees and shoppers reportedly noticed a foul odor coming from the freezer area but dismissed it.

Years following Larry’s devastating death, a horrifying simulation depicting the tragedy has been shared online by Zack D. Films.

It shows how terrifying it must have been for the 25-year-old to be trapped behind a fridge, unable to escape or call for help.

Reacting in the comments, one viewer says: “How heartbreaking for his family.”

Another adds: “That’s a very unfortunate death.”

“So sad,” comments a third.
