When it comes to what goes on in other people’s bedrooms, sometimes it’s a case of the less we know the better.

There are some truly bizarre trends out there, from ‘fluid bonding’ to ‘zombieing’ to the truly grotesque-sounding ‘rainbow kiss’.

But now, there’s a new bedroom kink that’s taking TikTok (where else) by storm.

‘Sploshing’ is the latest fad in the dating world that has taken over the internet, and it’s left many unsuspecting social media users feeling baffled.

The strange-sounding word is the first place to start at to get to the bottom of the ‘sploshing’ trend.

Lana Holmes, a psychologist at Onward and Outward Center for Inclusive Therapy and Wellness, revealed all in India Times.

Splosh! was actually an X-rated magazine that first launched in 1989.

It covered a whole host of different fetishes, particularly those in the ‘wet and messy’ categories – which is where ‘sploshing’ firmly fits.

But since 1989, ‘sploshing’ has only grown bigger and bigger in popularity, likely thanks to the proliferation of the internet.

Now, more niche content can be easily discovered and spread online, with the likes of TikTok catapulting the trend into viral status and providing millions of views for the content.

So, let’s get down to the nitty-gritty: what exactly is ‘sploshing’?

Well, we’re sorry to tell you that it ‘is a fetish in which people derive s**ual arousal and pleasure from being covered in food products and beverages‘.

“For some people, it’s very pleasurable, as well as liberating,” Holmes assures the internet.

Ayesha Hussain, co-creator of Pass The P*** and founder of The Violet, explains: “There are aspects of the mouth being a vessel that are inherently s**ual.

“It opens, it’s moist, and when you get aroused, your mouth opens more and gets more lubricated.

“It can be anything: spaghetti, cucumbers, chocolate …

“Watch every movement, taste every smell, imagine their saliva accumulating, and go from there!”

Kink educator Darla Delour tells Glamour: “To understand what sploshing is, we need to understand what it’s not. It does not involve bodily fluids.

“It’s not about using vegetables as d***os, nor is it adding a splash of whipped cream to your body to spice things up in the bedroom.”

Generally speaking, ‘sploshing’ is a safe and enjoyable sensual practice, provided it is between two enthusiastically consenting adults.

However, Emotions Market does offer some warnings to ‘sploshing’ beginners …

“It is crucial to prioritise safety and communication when selecting foods for sploshing activities, ensuring that all participants are comfortable and aware of any potential risks or sensitivities,” the site explains.

They also recommend choosing your ‘sploshing’ food wisely, making sure to avoid anything overly hot or spicy, or with sharp edges or small pieces that could cause injury.

The site also adds that ‘it is essential to communicate openly with your partner and establish clear boundaries and signals when incorporating a blindfold into the sploshing experience. Mutual trust, respect, and consent are crucial to ensuring that all participants feel safe and comfortable throughout the activity’.
