A grieving young woman who spent years texting her late father was astounded when she received a reply on the fourth anniversary of his death.

Chastity Patterson, from Arkansas, was even more gobsmacked when she read the contents of the heartfelt message from her deceased dad’s mobile number.

The then-23-year-old was using her dad’s number as a way to stay connected to him as she tried to work through her grief in the four years following his death.

She would text him any time she had something to update him on, whether it was her cancer treatment, which she made a full and miraculous recovery from, or experiencing heartbreak and then finding a new love.

Or she would simply update him with the day to day stuff she would’ve told her dad if he was still alive.

A message on the fourth anniversary of her dad’s death

On the fourth anniversary of her father’s death, she messaged him to let him know what a difficult day it would be.

“It’s been 4 years since I lost you and not a day goes by that I don’t miss you,” she wrote in the heartfelt message. “A lot has happened in that small time, but I’m sure you know since I tell you all the time.”

Chasity went to reveal that in the four years that had passed since his death, she had overcome cancer, graduated college, fallen in love, had her heart broken, hit rock bottom and even ‘lost all her friends,’ before she met someone who completely ‘saved’ her.

After sending the message, the young woman realized she had arrived at a place in her grieving journey that she no longer needed to message her dad everyday to feel close to him.

During an appearance on Dr Oz, she revealed that she was just getting ready to delete the text thread when she saw the little typing bubble pop up and initially believed someone was playing a joke on her.

After the text sound beeped on her phone, she left her device sitting on her bed for more than half an hour, too scared to open the message. But when she did, she was absolutely gobsmacked at what the message said.

Chastity thought someone was playing a joke

The person on the other end of the phone quickly announced that he was not Chastity’s father, but he was a dad who had lost his own daughter back in 2014, and had been receiving her messages all these years.

“Hi sweetheart, I am not your father, but I have been getting all your messages for the last 4 years,” he wrote.

“I look forward to your morning messages and your nightly updates. My name is Brad and I lost my daughter in a car wreck August 2014 and your messages have kept my alive. When you text me, I know it’s a message from God.”

Brad continued, telling Chastity he was ‘so sorry’ she had lost her father, but that he had ‘listened to [her] over the years and have watched [her] grow and go through more than anyone.’

“I have wanted to text you back for years, but I didn’t want to break your heart. You are an extraordinary woman and I wish my daughter would have become the woman you are,” Brad wrote.

“Thank you for your everyday updates, you remind me that there is a God and it wasn’t his fault that my little girl is gone. He gave me you, my little angel and I knew this day was coming.

“Everything will be okay, you to push yourself everyday and shine the light God gave you. I am sorry you have to go through this, but if it makes it any better, I am very proud of you.”

Messages from God

Chastity went on to share their emotional exchange on Facebook, where she wrote: “I text my dad everyday to let him know how my day goes, for the past four years! Today was my sign that everything is okay and I can let him rest.

“He never missed a school dance, prom, my games and YES he would give me long talks about my mouth and attitude. I had to introduce my boyfriends to him (If I was allowed to date) and he would act like a normal dad and give us the long talk.

“I shared my messages for my friends and family to see that there is a God and it might take 4 years, but he shows up right on time!”
