Spears, 41, is a renowned pop icon with a highly successful career marked by chart-topping hit singles such as ‘…Baby One More Time’, ‘Oops!… I Did It Again’, and ‘Toxic’.

The ‘Gimme More’ singer is no stranger to controversy in the public eye, having recently been embroiled in a conservatorship row with her own father.

Now, Spears has reportedly been assaulted by a security guard at a restaurant.

According to TMZ, Spears was allegedly assaulted in Las Vegas on July 5, after a member of NBA star Victor Wembanyama’s security ‘backhanded her in the face’.

The alleged incident occurred at Catch restaurant in the ARIA Hotel.

A member of Wembanyama’s security team allegedly ‘backhanded’ Spears in the face when she approached the basketball player to ask for a photo.

Spears reportedly fell to the ground, losing her glasses, but later composed herself and accepted an apology from the security guard, who claimed he didn’t recognise her.

The ‘Stronger’ artist’s security team filed a police report with the Metropolitan Police Department, accusing the guard of battery.

On her Instagram stories, Spears says: “Traumatic experiences are not new to me and I have had my fair share of them. I was not prepared for what happened to me last night.

“I recognised an athlete in my hotel lobby as I was heading to dinner.

“I later went to a restaurant to a restaurant at a different hotel and saw him again. I decided to approach him and congratulate him on his success.

“It was really loud, so I tapped him on the shoulder to get his attention.”

Spears disputes Wembanyama’s claim that she grabbed him from behind, stating that the security guard backhanded her in the face without looking back.

The ‘Circus’ singer then acknowledges that she has encountered situations where she has been swarmed by fans, but she firmly states that it is not an excuse for physical violence.

She believes that acts of physical violence occur far too frequently behind closed doors, and she stands in solidarity with all the victims, extending her heartfelt support to each one of them.

Spears’ husband, Sam Asghari, has also defended his wife in an angry Instagram story.

He says: “I am opposed to violence in any form, especially without justification in the defence of yourself or someone else who is unable to defend themselves.

“Self-defence can be unavoidable, but the defence of any woman, especially my wife, is not debatable.

“I consider my reaction subdued considering what occurred, and I hope the man in question learns a lesson and changes his disregard for women. Thank you for the support.”
