Andre Braugher’s cause of death has been confirmed.
The Emmy award-winning actor was best known for his role as Captain Raymond Holt in the American comedy series Brooklyn Nine-Nine and Detective Frank Pembleton in Homicide: Life on the Street.
He also appeared in other movies and TV shows, including Glory, City of Angels and Primal Fear.
Braugher’s fans were left devastated earlier this week when it was confirmed the star had passed away aged 61.

Initially, it was shared that Braugher had died following a ‘brief illness’.
Braugher’s publicist now tells the BBC that the 61-year-old died of lung cancer after being diagnosed with the disease several months ago.
Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer deaths worldwide, according to Mayo Clinic.
People who smoke have the greatest risk of lung cancer, but it can occur in people who have never smoked.
Braugher told The New York Times in 2014 that he had ‘stopped drinking alcohol and smoking years ago’.
Braugher’s Brooklyn Nine-Nine stars have taken to social media and paid tribute to the award-winning actor.
Terry Crews called him an ‘irreplaceable talent’, adding: “I will be forever grateful for the experience of knowing you.”
Crews’ – who played Terry Jeffords in the US sitcom – Instagram post read: “Can’t believe you’re gone so soon.
“I’m honoured to have known you, laughed with you, worked with you and shared 8 glorious years watching your irreplaceable talent. This hurts. You left us too soon. You taught me so much.
“Thank you for your wisdom, your advice, your kindness and your friendship. Deepest condolences to your wife and family in this difficult time. You showed me what a life well lived looks like.”

Ryan Case, who was a director and editor on the show, also shared memories she had of Braugher in a thread.
She penned: “Several members of the crew once told me they’d never seen someone smile as much as me when I was discussing S** and the City at length over a long lunch on an empty set with Andre.
“My cheeks actually hurt.”
Case added: “If there weren’t men like Andre in this business I probably would’ve quit it a long time ago. The world is worse without him.”

Braugher, who was born in Chicago, graduated from Stanford University before attending The Juilliard School for Drama in New York.
Although he appeared in numerous movie and TV show projects, he didn’t shoot to stardom until appearing in Brooklyn Nine-Nine.
His character was known for his deadpan humour, sassy remarks and for idolising his dog.
Andre Braugher is survived by his wife, Ami Brabson, and their three sons.
