Clark Haggans’ life was obviously so much more than one Super Bowl or the game of football. But he was a key piece to some great Steelers’ defenses. Nine sacks in 2005. Took down Matt Hasselbeck on the opening drive of SB 40.

Haggans played college football at Colorado State and was drafted in the 2000 NFL Draft in the fifth round as pick 137th overall by the Pittsburgh Steelers.
He was a part of the organisation from 2000 to 2007 and cemented himself as an integral component of the defence which helped the team win the Super Bowl in 2005.
Memorably, he was the defender who put Matt Hasselbeck on his back during the opening drive – which set the tone for the rest of the game.
In an interview with the steelersnow.com back in 2019, he recalled his first game in the NFL – which was a preseason match against the Dallas Cowboys.
“I was starstruck seeing Troy Aikman. I used to use him on my Techno-Bowl team,” Haggans recalled.
“Randall Cunningham was on their team then and when they snapped the ball, I didn’t move. It all happened so fast – I just stood there grabbing my crotch.”

Haggans also spoke about what it was like to win the Super Bowl, adding how delighted he was to win it alongside his college teammate and friend Joey Porter – who was drafted to the Steelers a year before Haggans joined.
He added: “The coolest though was that the first dude I saw when the confetti fell was Joey.
“We would wig out when we won the Holiday Bowl at Colorado State – that was the greatest thing to us then. Here we were winning a Super Bowl together.”
Haggans is survived by his son, Damon and his daughter, Alianna.
