Elon Musk Says He’s Changing Twitter’s Name
The Tesla CEO has announced huge changes for Twitter.
Elon Musk, 52, brought the social media company for a reported $44 billion (£38 million) in 2022.
Since owning the social media platform, the SpaceX founder has made a number of controversial decisions – including firing a number of senior executives and putting a temporary limit on how many tweets you can read.
Musk has now announced the biggest change to the brand yet – and it has certainly divided opinions.

The Neuralink founder has revealed that Twitter will now be simply known as ‘X’.
Along with this, Musk is suggesting that he will be replacing the iconic blue bird logo with a simple X too.
On July 23, he tweeted: “And soon we shall bid adieu to the Twitter brand and, gradually, all the birds.”
He continued in a series of posts: “If a good enough X logo is posted tonight, we’ll make go live worldwide tomorrow.
“If X is closest in style to anything, it should, of course, be Art Deco.”
The SpaceX founder then shared a video which offers a preview of the potential logo – before teasing that the rebrand could go live ‘later today’.
He also posted a video of the X logo being lit up on the side of the Twitter HQ building.
Twitter CEO, Linda Yaccarino, also hyped the change, adding: “For years, fans and critics alike have pushed Twitter to dream bigger, to innovate faster, and to fulfil our great potential.
“X will do that and more. We’ve already started to see X take shape over the past 8 months through our rapid feature launches, but we’re just getting started.”

Musk has a history of having an affiliation with the letter X and he’s previously tweeted a photo of himself making his hands into an X while standing in front of signage for the Tesla Model X.
The caption states: “Not sure what subtle clues gave it way, but I like the letter X.”
Meanwhile, his son X Æ A-12 – who he had with Grimes – is often referred to as X.
The Hollywood Reporter mentions how Musk also founded the website and online banking service X.com in 1999 – which would eventually merge with another company to become PayPal.
Musk reacquired the X.com domain from PayPal back in 2017 and said in a tweet Saturday that X will operate off of it.
It must be taken into consideration however that Musk does have a history of announcing something and that failing to follow through with it – so his drastic changes to Twitter should be taken with a pinch of salt.

With everyone anticipating the unveiling of X, the topic has been discussed on social media.
The account for the British TV Channel 4 quips: “People still call our streaming service 4OD so good luck.”
“We will still be calling it Twitter,” writes someone else.
Presenter Richard Osman jokes: “If Twitter becomes X, then all your Twitter friends will become exes.”
Another person suggests: “He’s doing all this just to change it back in a few days.”
A fifth user adds: “Genuinely we should be boycotting.”
