Although many parents would keep this from their children, Bell and Shepard are proud to do things differently with their two daughters, Lincoln, 9, and Delta, 8.
In REAL SIMPLE’s Game Changers’ first-ever celebrity cover issue, Bell reveals that she and her husband believe honesty is key to a healthy relationship with their kids.
She tells the publication: “I hate the word ‘taboo’. I think it should be stricken from the dictionary.
“There should be no topic that’s off the table for people to talk about.”
Bell goes on to say that her style may be ‘shocking’ to some, adding: “I know it’s shocking, but I talk to my kids about drugs, and the fact that their daddy is an addict and he’s in recovery, and we talk about s**.

“There are all these ‘hard topics’ that don’t have to be if you give the person on the other end your vulnerability and a little bit of credit.”
Elsewhere in the interview, Bell says she and Shepard believe it’s also important to teach their daughters life skills.
“Making amends and apologising is an important thing in our family because humans leave carnage wherever they go,” she continues.
“I really respect when someone does something wrong or hurtful and they apologise. I’m like, ‘Yeah, right on’. That’s important.”
Many people are taking to social media and praising Bell and Shepard for their open and honest parenting style.
Over on TikTok, one fan writes: “I’m convinced her and Dax are the best parents on Earth.

“Being honest about this stuff with your kids, even at a young age, can really set them up for success, and allows them to not be peer pressured later,” comments a third person.
However, not everyone agrees with this parenting style, and some are saying it’s fine to be honest with your kids – as long as you’re also ‘age-appropriate’.
Disagreeing with Bell, one person writes: “Mmmm kids don’t need to know everything and this was one of those things lol.”
In agreement, another adds: “I don’t mind telling my kids stuff, just at an age-appropriate time.”
