Away from the online controversy, Yamal’s rise has been one of football’s most remarkable stories.
Spain’s World Cup victory marked just the country’s second triumph in the competition after its first title in 2010.
Remarkably, Yamal was only three years old when Spain first lifted the famous trophy.
Long before becoming one of world football’s brightest young stars, he also shared an unforgettable moment with Lionel Messi.
In 2007, Yamal’s parents entered a charity raffle organized by the Catalan newspaper Sport and UNICEF, giving winning families the chance to have professional photographs taken with Barcelona players.
By chance, baby Yamal was paired with a then-20-year-old Messi.
Photographer Joan Monfort later recalled the memorable shoot, per AOL.

The footage, which quickly amassed around 10 million views, showed Yamal standing on the pitch wearing sunglasses with his winners’ medal around his neck while using his phone camera to fix his hair.
As he adjusted his appearance, García stood beside him smiling and gently rubbing his back.
The pair appeared to exchange a few words before Yamal walked away, with some viewers claiming he barely acknowledged her.

The post quickly gained traction, collecting tens of thousands of likes and prompting thousands of comments debating what viewers believed they had witnessed, Bored Panda reports.

Fans defend Yamal as others accuse critics of overreacting
Not everyone agreed with the backlash.
Many football fans argued that viewers were making sweeping judgments based on only a few seconds of footage without any wider context.
Several pointed out that Yamal had just won the World Cup — arguably the biggest achievement available in football — and was likely overwhelmed by the occasion.
One supporter wrote: “The guy just won a WORLD CUP, got a ton of stuff on his mind, trying to process it all.”
The same fan also shared another video showing Yamal later embracing and kissing García after the celebrations, arguing critics were deliberately ignoring moments that contradicted their narrative.
“He said something to her and went to speak to someone. What’s supposed to be the problem?” another defender asked.
The debate soon spread beyond X onto Reddit, where many users criticized what they saw as social media’s tendency to create drama from isolated clips.
One Reddit user commented: “Bro just won the biggest trophy you can as a footballer and people speculate how he acts in a 20 second video and judge him as a person.”

Speaking in a TikTok video, she explained that nothing so dramatic happened.

She also denied widespread claims that she ended a previous five-year relationship immediately after Yamal messaged her online.
Those allegations resurfaced across social media following the viral World Cup clip, but García has previously described them as “nonsense.”

While some commenters repeated the debunked claims, others pointed out they had already been denied and urged people not to spread unverified stories.
