She also claimed that she had previously stayed silent in part because Perry had supported her professionally at the time, including writing letters that helped her secure a US visa.
“So I kept it a secret,” she said, suggesting that personal and professional considerations influenced her decision not to come forward earlier.
The allegations quickly spread across global media, prompting widespread debate and placing intense attention on both women.
Police confirm investigation
Katy Perry has not personally addressed the claims in her own words, but her representatives issued a swift and unequivocal response.
In a statement, her team rejected the allegations entirely, describing them as ‘categorically false’ and calling them ‘dangerous, reckless lies.’
The statement also pointed to what it described as a pattern of past public allegations made by Rose, suggesting that similar claims had previously been denied by those involved.
At the same time, the situation escalated beyond public statements when Australian authorities confirmed that a formal complaint had been filed.
Victoria Police later issued an official update, confirming that detectives from the S**ual Offences and Child Abuse Investigation Team (SOCIT) are investigating a historical allegation linked to an incident in Melbourne in 2010.
“Detectives are investigating a historical s**ual assault that occurred in Melbourne,” a police spokesperson said, adding that it would be inappropriate to comment further while the investigation is ongoing.
The involvement of SOCIT—a specialist unit that handles serious and sensitive cases—signals that the complaint is being treated with gravity. However, authorities have also stressed that the investigation remains in its early stages and that no charges have been filed.
Rose has since indicated that she will no longer speak publicly about the matter while the investigation is ongoing, saying she has complied with police requests.
“I am no longer able to comment… this is a standard request from the police,” she wrote, describing the pause as part of the process.
Anna Kendrick clip resurfaces
As the police investigation gained attention, a separate wave of scrutiny began to build online, fuelled by resurfaced interviews and past allegations involving Perry.
One of the most widely shared clips features actress Anna Kendrick during a 2014 late-night television appearance. In the interview, Kendrick recounted what she described at the time as a ‘weird’ encounter with Perry at an awards show, using the word ‘aggressive’ in a humorous, anecdotal context.
At the time, the story was presented as light entertainment, with both Kendrick and the audience treating it as a joke. However, in the current climate, the clip is being revisited through a more critical lens.
Importantly, Kendrick has not made any new allegations or statements regarding the situation, and there is no indication that her story is connected to the ongoing police investigation. New claims emerge
As scrutiny intensified, another development added further complexity to the story: a resurfaced column written by Ruby Rose in 2011, per Rolling Stone.
In the article, originally published shortly after the time period in question, Rose described a night out involving Perry in Melbourne. Notably, she wrote at the time that ‘nothing horrific happened,’ framing the evening as chaotic but not traumatic.
The column also described heavy drinking and an incident in which she became ill, presenting it as part of a turning point that led her to reassess her lifestyle.
Now, in light of her current allegation, that earlier account has drawn significant attention.
Rose has addressed the apparent discrepancy, explaining that she downplayed the incident at the time because she did not know how to process it and felt unable to speak openly.
She suggested that external pressures—including concerns about her career and immigration status—played a role in how she chose to describe events publicly.
