Red Hot Chili Peppers Fans Are Creeped Out After Finding Out Who Anthony Kiedis Is Dating
People are just discovering who Anthony Kiedis is dating, and not everyone is feeling too comfortable about it.
At 63, the Red Hot Chilli Peppers co-founder and lead vocalist has lived a full and complicated life, having spoken openly about his struggles with drug addiction during his youth and early adulthood.
The musician, who was born in Michigan, was introduced to Hollywood’s drug and rock scene after moving to Los Angeles to live with his father when he was just 11 years old.
Following nearly three decades of struggles, Kiedis finally managed get sober in 2000, following the death of his close friend and bandmate Hillel Slovak.
In 2004, the frontman released his memoir Scar Tissue, documenting his addiction journey, and the same year he started dating model Heather Christie.
The pair were together for four years, and welcomed their son Everly Bear Kiedis, who was born in October 2007.
A history of concerning behavior
In addition to his addiction struggles, Kiedis has faced criticism after confessing having a s*xual relationship with a 14-year-old girl in his memoir.
He wrote about spending the night with a girl he’d just met, who he found out attended a Catholic school, which went on to inspire his song Catholic Girls Rule.
“After we got offstage, she came up to me and said, ‘I have something to tell you. My father’s the chief of police and the entire state of Louisiana is looking for me because I’ve gone missing. Oh, and besides that, I’m only 14’,” he recalled.
“I wasn’t incredibly scared, because, in my somewhat deluded mind, I knew that if she told the chief of police she was in love with me, he wasn’t going to have me taken out to a field and shot, but I did want to get her the hell back home right away. So we had s*x one more time.”
Since then, he has drawn more criticism for entering into relationships with increasingly young women, particularly when he was pictured with Australian model Helena Vestergaard, who he began dating in 2013 when she was 19 and he was 51.
Kiedis himself was a victim of statutory r*pe at the age of 14 by his father’s girlfriend, and later in 1989, during Red Hot Chilli Peppers’ Mother’s Milk tour, Kiedis was convicted of s**ual battery after a show at George Mason University.
It’s claimed he exposed himself and touched his crotch to a woman’s face without her consent. The singer was also convicted of indecent exposure and was fined $1,000 on each misdemeanour charge.
Kiedis’ girlfriend has defended their relationship
Now, people have been less than complimentary about his current relationship, with sex educator Eileen Kelly, who he was first seen publicly with in 2024.
“Girlfriend?? I thought she was his granddaughter,” one person commented, while another said: “I’m just glad it’s not a literal teenager again.”
The main objection people have with their partnership is that Kelly is less than half Kiedis’ age at just 30, but both parties have been quick to defend the age gap.
Kelly even went as far as writing an opinion piece about age gap relationships in British Vogue, under the headline ‘My Boyfriend Is Double My Age.’
“There is something to be said for a man who’s simply had more time to get his s*** together, and my much older boyfriend seems genuinely excited to be with me,” she penned.
“Not like he’s biding his time before he can swipe for someone better. He is fully aware that he’s one lucky b****d.”
She later confessed the age gap ‘didn’t register at first,’ noting, ‘I had met someone interesting and magnetic; if anything, I assumed we’d just become friends,’ but they quickly became much more.
In the piece, Kelly acknowledged that a lot of the time people take issues with age gap relationships is down to an imbalance of power between partners, but she reassured that is not the case in her relationship with the rockstar.
“I have my own money, my own career, and I have my own home. I love my boyfriend, but I’m not at risk of losing everything if we break up,” she explained.
“It’s hard not to see that distance between needing and wanting as part of the balance that makes the relationship possible. If I were 18, or even 21, the scales would be weighted far differently.”
