Stephen ‘tWitch’ Boss, DJ On Ellen DeGeneres Show, Has Died

Stephen ‘tWitch’ Boss has died aged 40.

He was best known for being the resident DJ on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

Boss’ wife, Allison Holker Boss confirmed his passing in a statement to People magazine.

She said: “It is with the heaviest of hearts that I have to share my husband Stephen has left us.

“Stephen lit up every room he stepped into. He valued family, friends and community above all else and leading with love and light was everything to him.

“He was the backbone of our family, the best husband and father, and an inspiration to his fans.”

She continued: “To say he left a legacy would be an understatement, and his positive impact will continue to be felt.

“I am certain there won’t be a day that goes by that we won’t honour his memory. We ask for privacy during this difficult time for myself and especially for our three children.”

Boss finished her statement by sharing a message for her husband. “Stephen, we love you, we miss you, and I will always save the last dance for you,” she concluded.

His cause of death is yet to be confirmed and is pending additional investigation from the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner, People reports.

According to TMZ, the actor died by suicide with a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Boss is survived by his wife and their three children, Weslie, 14, Maddox, 6, and Zaia, 3.

Ellen paid a touching tribute to her longtime friend.

She wrote: “I’m heartbroken. tWitch was pure love and light.

“He was my family, and I loved him with all my heart. I will miss him.

“Please send your love and support to Allison and his beautiful children – Weslie, Maddox, and Zaia.”

The DJ first appeared on MTV’s The Wade Robson Project before becoming a runner-up on Star Search.

He then competed on the programme So You Think You Can Dance in 2008, ending season four as a runner-up and later returning as an All-Star.

Boss returned to the show as a judge when the show came back in 2022.

He also appeared in films such as Magic Mike XXL and Step Up.

However, he is most recognised for his work on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

He joined the chat show as a guest DJ in 2014, before landing the role full-time.

Boss was later promoted to co-executive producer on the show in 2020.

Andy Lessner, who worked with Boss on the show has tweeted a photo of the two of them, along with DeGeneres smiling in a car together with the caption ‘Rest, my friend’.

Others have paid tribute to him too on social media, with one person writing: “tWitch lit up every room he was in, rest in peace to a legend.”

Actor Brian Dietzen tweeted: “Absolutely heartbreaking. My family has been watching this amazing man for years.

“I never had the chance to meet him, but he never failed to put a smile on faces when he graced our screen. Rest in peace.”

In its tribute to Boss, MTV said he was ‘known for his energetic spirit’.
