According to the Los Angeles Times, those who worked with the actor noticed that he would seemingly appear confused on set and not understand why he was there.

People around him also noticed that was receiving his lines through an earpiece.

It was then revealed by his family that Willis was retiring from acting after he was diagnosed with aphasia.

The disorder affects how you communicate and it is caused by damage to parts of the brain responsible for understanding and producing language.

People with aphasia often have trouble with reading, listening, speaking, typing or writing.

She said: “To Bruce’s amazing supporters, as a family, we wanted to share that our beloved Bruce has been experiencing some health issues and has recently been diagnosed with aphasia, which is impacting his cognitive abilities.

“As a result of this and with much consideration, Bruce is stepping away from the career that has meant so much to him.”

The post was signed off by Willis’ wife Emma, his ex-wife Demi Moore, and his children.

His family has now provided another update on the actor as Christmas approaches.

A source close to the family told RadarOnline that the festive season is a ‘special time for the family’ and they will continue their usual traditions.

“The family traditions they loved continued, like their pyjama parties and game nights,” they revealed.

The source also added that his older children, who he had with Moore, are ‘cherishing every moment’ they have with him this Christmas period.

They continued: “There are days when they see glimpses of the old Bruce, but they are brief and far between.

“It seems he’s slipping further away from them, and it breaks their heart.

“With Christmas around the corner, all they can do is tell him they love him and pray for a holiday miracle.”

The source added that Willis’ wife Emma and his ex-wife Moore have grown closer as they cherish every moment they have with the actor.

The anonymous source told the outlet: “Demi has been in constant contact with Bruce and Emma.

“She’s taking every opportunity she can to spend time with him. If she’s not there by his side, she’s calling on the phone just so Bruce can hear her voice.”

The Rocky legend said: “Bruce is going through some really, really difficult times.

“So he’s been sort of incommunicado. That kills me. It’s so sad.”
