Donald Trump has been slammed for a ‘disgusting’ act towards the families of soldiers who passed in the Iran war.
President Donald Trump has come under fire after the White House postponed a dignified transfer ceremony for two US service members killed during the ongoing conflict with Iran.
The move is prompting criticism from political opponents and social media users who accused the administration of showing disrespect to grieving military families.
The delay came as the war between the United States and Iran continues to escalate, with American casualties mounting and tensions showing little sign of easing.
The White House initially announced that Trump would attend the solemn ceremony at Dover Air Force Base before later confirming that the event would no longer take place as scheduled.
The change sparked an immediate backlash online, with critics questioning why the ceremony had been delayed and whether the president’s schedule had taken priority over honoring fallen troops.
Conflict with Iran continues to escalate
The latest controversy comes as the military confrontation between the United States and Iran continues to intensify.
Trump has repeatedly vowed retaliation following attacks on U.S. forces, declaring that Iran would pay ‘many times over’ for every American soldier killed, per the BBC.
The United States has carried out repeated strikes on Iranian military targets, while Iran has launched missile and drone attacks targeting American forces and regional allies.
Officials say the conflict remains ongoing, with further military operations expected.
Diplomatic efforts have so far failed to produce a lasting ceasefire, and military leaders continue to monitor developments across the region.
As families prepare to receive their loved ones, attention remains focused not only on the widening conflict overseas but also on how the deaths of American service members are being handled at home, with the delayed dignified transfer becoming the latest flashpoint in an already deeply divisive political debate.
White House postpones transfer ceremony
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt first announced that Trump would attend the dignified transfer of two American service members who were killed while serving in the Middle East, per the Mirror.
She wrote on X: “President Trump will attend the dignified transfer of our fallen heroes tomorrow evening at Dover Air Force Base.”
Leavitt added: “The President and the entire White House are praying for their families.”
The announcement accompanied a Truth Social post from Trump, in which he vowed retaliation against Iran, writing: “Every time Iran kills an American Soldier they will pay for that killing many times over!”
However, shortly afterward, Leavitt posted another update confirming that the ceremony had been postponed.
She wrote: “The dignified transfer is no longer taking place tomorrow. The exact day and time are still being finalized.”
No explanation was immediately provided for the delay.
The postponement quickly became a talking point across social media, where many users criticized the decision.
One person wrote: “Such disrespect for the families of the fallen.”
Another added: “Change the date depending on whether Donnie’s in the mood or not. Disgusting.”
Others questioned why the ceremony appeared to depend on the president’s availability.
“To when? When Trump can fit it in between rounds of golf?” one commenter wrote.
Another said: “Oh God! Make sure he isn’t wearing any of his disrespectful merchandise please. He is so disgraceful.”
The White House had not publicly addressed the criticism at the time of writing.
Two young service members killed during Iranian attacks
The ceremony was intended to honor First Lieutenant Tyler James Feehan, 25, of Hawaii, and Private Isabella Gonzales, 19, of Carrollton, Texas, Yahoo reports.
According to U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), both soldiers were killed while defending against Iranian ballistic missile and drone attacks targeting U.S. and partner forces in Jordan.
CENTCOM said in a statement: “On July 17, two U.S. service members in Jordan were killed in action as U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) and partner forces defended against Iranian ballistic missile and drone attacks.”
The military also confirmed that another service member remains missing.
Four additional personnel were airlifted for medical treatment following the attacks before later being released.
The deaths increased the number of American military personnel killed during the conflict in the Middle East to 17.
The Pentagon has also reported that hundreds of U.S. troops have been injured since hostilities intensified, highlighting the growing human cost of the conflict.
Trump’s comments draw fresh criticism
The postponement followed criticism over Trump’s public comments after learning of the latest military deaths.
Speaking to reporters, Trump said: “Well, we feel very badly, but, you know, those great people, those great patriots, are out there fighting that Iran cannot have a nuclear weapon.”
“So we’ll see what happens. But we hit them very hard again tonight.”
While supporters viewed the remarks as reaffirming the administration’s commitment to military operations, critics described the comments as lacking compassion.
The controversy intensified after Trump later shared a Truth Social post comparing casualty figures from multiple American conflicts.
The post listed the death tolls from wars including Afghanistan, Iraq, Vietnam and Korea before comparing them with the current conflict involving Iran.
Among those criticizing the post was California Governor Gavin Newsom, who described Trump as a “disgusting Little Man” and urged him to “Treat our brave American soldiers with some respect.”
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer also condemned the message, writing: “Bragging about ‘only’ 18 brave US service members being killed in a reckless and illegal war he started is beneath contempt and a new low even for the likes of Donald Trump.”
Former Republican congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene also criticized the president’s comments, writing: “Trump is bragging about killing 18 US soldiers.”
She added: “The ‘peace president’ went to war and is killing and wounding our troops.”
