Cher, 78, had an extremely savage response when asked why she only dates younger men.
Cher, dubbed the ‘Goddess of Pop,’ is one of the best-selling music artists of all time and is known for hits such as ‘Believe’ and ‘If I Could Turn Back Time.’
She is the only solo artist to date with a number-one single on the Billboard chart in seven consecutive decades.
The 78-year-old has shown no signs of slowing down in her career – with the same being said for her dating life.
Cher’s love life has made headlines throughout her life – she’s had two high-profile marriages, one with singing partner Sonny Bono from 1964 to 1975 and singer Gregg Allman from 1975 to 1979.
In an interview on The Jennifer Hudson Show, the ‘Strong Enough’ singer shocked everyone by admitting she’s ‘kind of shy around men.’
She revealed she even turned down an opportunity to date Elvis Presley.
Cher explained: “It was because I was nervous and I knew of the people around him and it wasn’t that they were bad people, it’s just that I was kind of nervous of his reputation.”
Cher has been romantically involved with 38-year-old music executive Alexander Edwards since 2022. The two began dating after being introduced at Paris Fashion Week.
She says he ‘treats her like a queen’ and ‘love doesn’t know maths.’
The ‘I Got You Babe’ artist has admitted: “I told my friends, don’t fall in love with a younger man, we’re too old. And don’t fall in love by text. There goes that theory.”
On the couple’s first anniversary, Cher told People it’s ‘never too late’ to find love and they ‘have fun.’
She said: “What I learned is that it’s never too late. If you wrote out all the statistics, you would go, ‘Well, this is doomed.’ But we’ve been together a year, and if it was just a year, it would’ve been worth it. I’ve had the best time.”
This isn’t the first time Cher has been linked to a younger man.
The ‘Proud Mary’ singer dated American actor Val Kilmer during the 1980s and their relationship raised eyebrows due to their 13-year age gap.
She dated Tom Cruise in the ’80s too – the singer was 38 and Cruise was 23, making their age gap 16 years.
Regarding her latest relationship, Cher has dealt with negative comments on social media, some people have questioned ‘what they have in common.’
The icon clapped back: “He’s kind, hilarious, smart, talented, beautiful. We talk and laugh. We are perfectly matched. Do I wish I was younger, yah, I’m not.”
So, what is the reason Cher only dates younger men?
Well, on The Jennifer Hudson Show, the singer brutally joked men her age ‘are all dead.’
Cher added: “But before, they were always terrified to approach me. And younger men – they were raised by women like me.”
