Chloë Grace Moretz says that a ‘cruel’ Family Guy meme turned her into a recluse.

The successful American sitcom has been on the air since 1999 and has amassed a huge following of fans – who love the TV show for its satirical boundary-pushing humour.

Over the years, Family Guy has poked fun at plenty of celebrities during its time on our screens, including the likes of Tom Cruise, Kanye West, and Justin Bieber.

And Moretz has now spoken out about being compared to a character in the sitcom.

The Kick-Ass actress was snapped by paparazzi walking with two pizza boxes and wearing an outfit made up of a top, heels and shorts back in 2016.

The shot was then edited to make her legs look longer than they actually are.

People began comparing this image to the Family Guy character Legs Go All The Way Griffin – Peter Griffin’s aunt.

At some point, these photos were put side by side, leading to Moretz turning into a viral meme.

The Hugo actress has since addressed how the joke has impacted her in an interview with Hunger Magazine.

Moretz says she has received an ‘onslaught of memes’ about her body but that this one ‘really affected’ her.

She recalls everyone ‘making fun of my body’ and says she felt her body was ‘being used as a joke’.

The 5th Wave star adds: “And to this day when I see that meme, it’s something very hard for me to overcome.”

The Carrie star goes on to reveal that she suffered from body dysmorphia and the image made her feel ‘super conscious’.

Moretz adds that she did not enjoy stuff that she usually would like, such as ‘getting dressed up’ and being spotted on red carpets.

She then recalls how she became a recluse.

Moretz tells Hunger Magazine: “But at the same time, it made me severely anxious when I was photographed.

“My heart rate would rise and I would hyperventilate.”

The If I Stay actress says that she went through lots of therapy to help her with issues that came with her being in the spotlight from such a young age.

Moretz adds that the Covid-19 pandemic and being in lockdown ‘aided’ the experience of staying out of the spotlight.

She says that she feels like a ‘very different girl than I was’.
