The Peripheral debuted on Amazon Prime Video in October of this year but largely went under the radar.
The sci-fi thriller follows Moretz (Kick-Ass) as she enters a virtual reality that seems much more real than she is led to believe.
Before she knows it, she is embroiled in a mystery that affects her reality too.
The series is based on the 2014 novel of the same name (written by William Gibson) and is created by Scott Smith.
While Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy, the minds behind the HBO series Westworld, are executive producers.
It has a 77% critics rating on Rotten Tomatoes, but audiences have given The Peripheral an 87% rating.
Even though it came out back in October, fans are only now starting to sing its praises and have been discussing it on social media.
One person said: “The Peripheral has to be one of the best sci-fi action combos I’ve seen all year. Again, Amazon Prime is the go-to for action flicks. Bread and butter.”
“The Peripheral is one of the best shows of the year,” claimed someone else.
A third viewer added: “I loved The Peripheral – one of the most interesting things I’ve watched in ages.”
Another fan said: “This series is a masterpiece! It delivers almost everything it promises.”
“Beautiful and riveting! Haven’t watched such a good sci-fi but action-filled series in ages,” expressed a fifth person.
The success of the series has already prompted Vernon Sanders, the Head of Amazon Studios, to tease a second season of The Peripheral.
In an interview with Collider, he revealed: “We are in talks about Season 2 as we speak.
“We’re incredibly proud of the producers of The Peripheral. So I think there’ll be news on that in the not-too-distant future.
“We’re already hard at work on scripts for Season 2 and a plan for Season 2, so nothing to say officially right now, but we’re deep into it.”
The Peripheral is available to stream on Amazon Prime.
