A passenger on a nine-month cruise has shared that there is one word people are ‘banned’ from saying.
Cruises are undoubtedly one of the most relaxing kinds of holidays you can have.
Whether you choose to sit back on the deck, eat and drink whatever you like, or get off at each dock to explore – it’s everything you could want from a trip away.
But although it may feel as though you have expansive freedom to do whatever you want, a TikToker claims that there’s actually a word passengers are ‘banned’ from saying.

Marc Sebastian is a passenger on Royal Caribbean’s nine-month Ultimate World Cruise. The TikToker has boarded for the South American-Antartica leg of the trip.
During his time aboard, he’s learnt several pieces of information, including that some passengers hide rubber ducks around the ship for others to find.
“People are crazy about the ducks,” he shares.
Interestingly, he’s found out that ships are given godmothers, and his ship’s godmother is the actress Whoopi Goldberg.
He has even showed off a framed photo of the celebrity aboard the ship.
He’s also found out that the cruise’s pool water is actually seawater!
“I don’t know how in my head I thought they were filling them, but what I didn’t think they were doing was filling it with seawater,” Sebastian comments.
Aside from learning all this information, the TikToker has also found out there’s one word he should not be saying aboard the cruise – as the reaction you will get is utter shock and silence.
Long ago, sailors used to avoid words such as ‘drown’ on a boat, as they feared it would bring on the event itself, as per King Point Marina. While ‘good luck’ and ‘goodbye’ were also ‘banned’ due to the belief they were unlucky.
Over time, new words have come to be unlucky for passengers – and now, Sebastian has revealed what he’s learnt is an absolute no-no to say.

Sebastian explains in his viral video: “You’re not supposed to talk about the Titanic. Who knew that? I didn’t.”
Explaining how he found out, he goes on to recall: “I brought up to an entire room of people having lunch that our ship was only 100 feet longer than Titanic.
“When I tell you that — utensils dropped, waiters gasped, it’s dead silent.”
He then says that his friend, Nadine, leaned over and whispered – telling him not to bring up the Titanic again.
“Well, it was like that was in the f***ing handbook. Not that I read the handbook, clearly,” he jokes.

Since Sebastian’s video has gone viral, his followers have taken to the comments to react to the ‘banned word’.
One person writes: “Not being able to talk about the Titanic would definitely ruin the experience for me.”
“Is the Titanic thing for cruises the same as like Macbeth for theatre,” asks a second.
A third says: “I knew none of these things and would definitely be talking about the Titanic.”
“Wait whatttt, when I went on a cruise I was singing the Titanic theme song the whole time,” somebody pens.
