There is a ‘calculated’ reason why Five Guys give you so many fries with your order.

The fast-food chain was only established in the 1980s – but it has quickly found itself to be extremely popular and it’s recognised as one of the fastest-growing food restaurants.

It has over 1,300 restaurants across the world and is known for allowing customers to put whatever they want on their burgers as well as its mouthwatering milkshakes.

Customers are also spoilt with huge portions of fries, no matter what size you order – which is known as a ‘topper’.

However, there is a ‘calculated’ reason for this.

According to Mashed, the mass of fries that you find at the bottom of your Five Guys order is all about leading customers to believe they’re getting a great deal.

While you may think that the restaurant are being generous, the outlet reports that the extra fries are actually included in the price.

So in reality, Five Guys is just luring the customer into thinking that you are receiving more than your money’s worth.

The founder of Five Guys, Jerry Murrell addresses the abundance of fries they serve in an interview with Food Republic.

He says to the outlet: “People complain that they get too many fries. I just tell them to make hash browns with the leftovers.

“I teach my managers that if people aren’t complaining, then you’re not giving them enough.”

Chad Murrell, one of Jerry’s five sons, adds in the interview that Five Guys aims to give their customers ‘their money’s worth’.

“I won’t name names, but other restaurants just don’t give a satisfying amount of fries,” he continues.

“We always give an extra scoop. I say load ’em up and make sure they get their money’s worth.”

Despite its immense popularity, Five Guys has faced plenty of criticism, especially over its prices.

A simple meal made up of a burger, small fries and a milkshake will cost you £15.15 in the UK and $15.57 in the US.

The prices are much more expensive than its fast-food competitors and are often compared to sit-down restaurant prices.

However, this is due to Five Guys priding itself on how fresh its food is.

Iain Ross-Mackenzie, the director of operations-APAC at Five Guys International, tells TRP: “People come to Five Guys for a simple, great American burger. And that’s what they will get here.

“Nothing in [the] store is frozen. We only ever use fresh ingredients.”

Whenever you visit Five Guys, a sign will indicate where the potatoes being used on the day are from.

The chain ensures that the burgers are served with the best quality products, while the beef patties are never frozen.

It also guarantees that there are fresh vegetables in the burgers and that the fries are hand-cut in-store from potatoes all over the world.
