George Jung Who Inspired Johnny Depp Film ‘Blow’ Dead At 78

George Jung, the infamous cocaine smuggler who was portrayed by Johnny Depp in the 2001 film ‘Blow,’ has died, aged 78.

According to TMZ, he died on Wednesday morning at home in the Boston area.

His cause of death is currently not known but it’s been reported that he recently experienced kidney failure.

Apparently, he had spent time in a hospice prior to his death.

His Twitter account has tweeted a quote from the film inspired by his life.

It read: “May the wind always be at your back and the sun upon your face, and the winds of destiny carry you aloft to dance with the stars 1942-2021.”

The film, which also starred Penelope Cruz, was adapted from Bruce Porter’s 1993 book titled ‘Blow: How a Small Town Boy Made $100 Million with the Medellin Cocaine Cartel and Lost It All’.

Jung served 20 years in prison before he was released in 2014.

However, he ended up having to return two years later for violating his parole.

Many people have been tweeting about the sad news of his passing.

One person wrote: “RIP George Jung. Will be watching Blow after I get home from softball tonight.”
