The cause of Carlson’s death has not been disclosed at this time.
Carlson’s portrayal of Zoe on All My Children, spanning over 50 episodes from 2006 to 2007, was a significant milestone for transgender representation on television.
The character’s gender transition was a pivotal storyline on the show, highlighting her journey through meetings with an endocrinologist, joining a transgender support group, and coming out to her parents.
In an interview with People magazine, Carlson reflected on the impact of Zoe’s character, stating that members of the transgender community engaged in conversations with fans on All My Children chatrooms.
He even received a touching letter from an 11-year-old girl who expressed her excitement, saying: “It’s cool you’re going to become a girl. Then we will have stuff in common.”
Aside from his role in All My Children, Carlson made notable contributions to Broadway, including portraying Billy in The Goat and Marilyn in Taboo.
He also appeared in the 2005 romantic comedy Hitch, playing the role of snobby restaurant critic Egon alongside Will Smith and Eva Mendes.
