A new Netflix true crime series starring Evan Peters as notorious serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer is being praised for its ‘disturbing’ and ‘merciless’ portrayal.

Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story follows Dahmer’s life from the late 1970s to the early 1990s.

The show was released on Netflix on September 21 with Peters teaming up once again with American Horror Story creator Ryan Murphy.

With all 10 episodes available to watch, critics have posted their reviews.

Moster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story currently has an IMDB rating of 8.6/10 and a Rotten Tomatoes score of 90%.

Kayla Cobb for Decider wrote: “Monster isn’t just well directed, written, and acted. It’s rewriting what a crime drama can look like if we stop glorifying murderers and start focusing more on systematic failures.”

While Alberto Carlos for Espinof added: “A remarkable example of true crime that is as forceful as it is truly absorbing and disturbing in its merciless portrayal of the killer.”

Ed Power from the Daily Telegraph praised Peters for his performance, which he described as: “A ghoulish nerd in the tradition of Psycho’s Norman Bates, his Dahmer is creepily unflappable.”

Power added: “A competent and earnest character study that goes out of its way to make the viewer’s insides lurch, their skin crawl.”

In the show’s lead-up, Peters mentioned how he was ‘scared’ reenacting Dahmer’s horrendous actions.

The X-Men star also added how this role is ‘one of the hardest things he has ever had to do in his life’.

Viewers on social media have also been discussing the show, with one person on Twitter posting: “This Dahmer limited series on Netflix is one of the most disturbing things I have ever watched and I feel like I have a pretty high threshold.

“Not sure I’m gonna be able to finish it. It is genuinely horrifying.”

Another individual praised Peter’s performance by tweeting: “Without romanticising the role, because this individual was evil to his core, but Evan Peters as Dahmer is just sensational.”

“The Dahmer Netflix series is actually really hard to watch by Episode 2 my skin was crawling but I also have so many questions,” shared a third viewer.

A fourth person said: “Started watching Dahmer on Netflix and boyyyyyy I wasn’t ready. Also, Evan Peters is scary good in this role. Almost too good.”

“Evan Peters deserves an award for this! He portrayed Jeff so perfectly! I’m still having goosebumps on that scene where he was drinking that blood bag,” shared someone else.

Another wrote: “I watched the first two episodes of Dahmer on Netflix. The acting is phenomenal. It’s absolutely horrifying.”

“This Jeffrey Dahmer series is f***ing insane and horrifying,” another user tweeted.

While another viewer said: “The new Jeffrey Dahmer series is absolutely terrifying. Evan Peters outdid every single actor that has acted as Dahmer.

“I’m not finished with the series yet I have like 6 more episodes but honest this series is not for the weak.”

The show, as of writing, is currently ranked number 1 on the Netflix Top 10.
