Kim Kardashian has been branded ‘disrespectful’ after wearing Marilyn Monroe’s iconic ‘Happy Birthday Mr President’ dress to the 2022 Met Gala.
The reality TV star rocked up to the New York event wearing the icon’s figure-hugging gown that she wore when she sang a song to John F Kennedy back in 1962.
Despite wowing spectators at the event, many of Kardashian’s fans have taken to Twitter and slammed the move.

One tweeted: “Kim Kardashian wearing the real dress that Marilyn Monroe wore to sing Happy Birthday to the president in 1962 is disgraceful and so disrespectful. This dress is 60 years old and so unbelievably fragile with age, it should have been left alone and in pristine condition.”
“For Kim Kardashian to wear Marilyn Monroe’s dress is so disrespectful. And especially for some of yall to say, ‘She’s the new Marilyn’ is so out of line. Also for Kim to even be dyeing her hair blonde WHILE wearing the dress just no. I’m so sorry Marilyn #MetGala2022 #MetGala,” another fumed.
In agreement, a third commented: “I don’t understand why you didn’t do something original? You are your own person, whether you like it or not. You should have been you. It actually could have been interesting. Marilyn was herself, and one of a kind. Totally inappropriate to copy her.”
Marilyn Monroe’s iconic dress, which features more than 2,500 handstitched crystals, was reportedly sold at auction in 2016 to Ripley’s Believe It or Not! museum in Orlando, Florida. At the time, it sold for almost $5million.

It currently holds the record for being the most expensive dress to ever have been sold at auction.
The SKIMS owner is the first person to wear the gown in public since Monroe sang to the former president in it.
This isn’t the first time that the Kardashian has sparked controversy with her Met Gala look.
Last year, the 41-year-old arrived at the event wearing a full bodysuit and T-shirt dress from Balenciaga.
At the time, Piers Morgan roasted the star and described the outfit as a ‘Taliban burka’.
In his Daily Mail column, the TV presenter penned: “Kim was mercilessly mocked on social media for wearing what seemed to be a fusion of giant black trash bag and Taliban burka that covered every inch of her body.
“Ironically, she looked better than I’ve seen her for years.”
