The main suspect in the Madeleine McCann case has spoken out in disturbing new letters from prison.

Christian B, 45, was named a formal suspect in 2022 after it had been claimed he was spotted at Arade dam – which is about 50km away from Praia da Luz – around the time of the toddler’s disappearance.

He allegedly lived in the area while the McCanns were on holiday in 2007.

However, Christian B has never been officially charged over Madeleine’s disappearance and has denied any involvement with her.

He is currently in prison in Germany for the r*** of a woman in Praia da Luz in 2005 and is also suspected of further r*** and child s**ual abuse in the area between 2000 and 2017.

Now in letters seen by the Daily Mail, Christian B has protested his innocence in the case as he claims he had nothing to do with McCann’s disappearance.

He pens: “You can never imagine how it is when the whole world believes you are a child murderer, and you are not.”

The suspect then reveals that he got told that there will not even be a trial for him as there is ‘not the smallest piece of evidence’.

He continues: “I got told a long time ago that the prosecutor’s office was closing the Maddie case because there is not even the smallest evidence. There will never be a trial.

“The prosecutors are not saying anything to the public because they must give the files to my lawyers – and they contain many (sic) material which confirms my innocence.”

He concludes his letters by writing: “I’m writing this without self-pity and my self-confidence and self-control was never at a higher level.

“What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger. Chin up! Better days are coming.”

A search of the Arade Dam was authorised by German authorities and it recently took place.

It went on for three days and involved divers investigating the dam while officers explored a woodland area that was located near the water.

While the search was stopped due to weather warnings, it has been reported that officials found a possible ‘relevant clue’.

This includes a bra strap, items of clothing and plastic items.

Eight large, deep holes were also dug in order to collect soil samples – which have now been sent off for DNA and forensic testing in Germany.

However, the McCanns may have to wait a long to receive the results of the search, as it could potentially take weeks to months for the study to be thoroughly analysed and completed.
