Australian TV presenter Natalie Barr has branded Meghan Markle a ‘tosser’ after the Duchess of Sussex compared herself to Nelson Mandela

Speaking on the breakfast show Sunrise, the 54-year-old explained how ‘she couldn’t stomach’ the former actress’s interview with The Cut magazine.

Barr commented: “I think in Australia we’d say she’s just full of it. She’s a tosser. She’s a total tosser! That’s how we would describe her. I just can’t… the way she speaks.”

Newsreader Edwina Bartholomew also offered an opinion by saying: “I think she has a very different narrative, perhaps, in the US to what is being accepted in the UK.”

Barr’s comments come after Markle told The Cut how an unnamed South African cast member spoke to her about how her situation is similar to Mandela’s freedom.

She recalled: “He looked at me, and he’s just like light. He said, ‘I just need you to know: When you married into this family, we rejoiced in the streets the same we did when Mandela was freed from prison’.”

Mandela spent 27 years in prison for opposing South Africa’s discrimination system.

After he was released, he became the first democratically elected president of South Africa.

Despite the backlash over her comparison, Allison P Davies, who interviewed Markle for The Cut, has clarified her statement.

She said: “Of course, she knows she’s no Mandela, but perhaps even telling me this story is a mode of defence, because if you are a symbol for all that is good and charitable, how can anybody find you objectionable, how can anybody hate you?”

Her interview is currently a big talking point all across the world, as she has referenced herself and Prince Harry’s relationship with the Royal Family, along with the press using racist terminology towards her children.
