Michael Jackson has been replaced by Harry Styles as the ‘new King of Pop’ and people aren’t happy about it, including the late musician’s family.

Since the legend’s passing, there have been talks and debates over who will prove themselves to be as iconic as the ‘Thriller’ singer and to put it to a stop, Rolling Stone published a piece with the caption: ‘Harry Styles: How the new King of Pop set the music world aflame’.

Retweeting the cover, Jackson’s nephew, Taj, penned: “There is no new King of Pop. You don’t own the title @RollingStone, and you didn’t earn it, my uncle did.

Watch Harry Styles discuss his latest album…

“Decades of dedication and sacrifice. The title has been retired. No disrespect to @Harry_Styles, he’s mega talented. Give him his own unique title.”

Agreeing with Taj Jackson, thousands took to the comments and debated the topic.

One tweeted: “I’m a huge Harry Styles fan but no. He is not the new King of Pop. There is no new King of Pop.”

“Well said Taj!!” a second agreed. “The King of Pop title is owned by your uncle and him only. The Rolling Stone knows this, they did this to be controversial and to get people talking about it, the magazine and Harry all while blatantly being disrespectful to the true and only King of Pop.”

A third weighed in, commenting: “100% agree. When Michael Jackson departed this world, the title of King of Pop left with him. It’s an insult to give that label to anyone considering the struggles the Jackson family went through back in the day to get to where they are. it’s retired.”

Others took to the comments and defended Rolling Stone naming Harry Styles as the ‘new King of Pop’.

“I mean… let’s use context clues… The NEW King of Pop… which means there was/is a FIRST King of Pop… which is your uncle. We all know this. Let people also shine,” one wrote.
