Major Update In Nancy Guthrie Case As Sheriff Speaks Out On Kidnapper’s ‘Motive’
A bombshell update has been issued in the Nancy Guthrie case as a sheriff believes they know the kidnapper’s ‘motive.’
The mother of Today show presenter Savannah Guthrie was kidnapped on February 1 from her home in Arizona.
Now, a ‘big clue’ has reportedly been uncovered, which has helped investigators determine a potential motive for the crime.
Kidnapping that shocked the nation
Nancy, 84, was reported missing from her home in Catalina Foothills, Arizona, on February 1, with evidence revealing that she had been taken against her will.
Bloodstains found at Nancy’s home in the Tucson suburbs were revealed to be those of the 84-year-old.
Ransom notes have since been sent, demanding multiple sums to be paid in cryptocurrency. Both ransom deadlines had passed by February 9.
In the month-and-a-half that Nancy has been missing, no suspect has been determined.
Savannah Guthrie has posted multiple videos online appealing to the kidnapper, offering $1 million for information that leads to her mother’s return.
In the time since the abduction, a California man has been arrested on suspicion of sending fake ransom notes and is facing federal charges. However, he is not believed to be linked with the disappearance of Nancy.
A deliveryman was also detained and faced questioning. He was released and cleared shortly after, however.

The only sight of the kidnapper that authorities have to work with so far is footage captured on a doorbell camera that showed a masked man turning up at Nancy’s house on the night of her abduction.
‘Big clue’ emerges in Nancy Guthrie case
Jennifer Coffindaffer, a retired FBI agent, has revealed that Prima County Sheriff Chris Nanos has given a ‘big clue’ about the case which could clear up the motive of the kidnapper and bring them closer to an eventual arrest.
In a recent interview, Sheriff Nanos said, per Newsweek: “I think it’s come out from day one. I think from day one, we had strong beliefs about what happened and those beliefs haven’t diminished.”
Coffindaffer told Newsweek: “The big clue he gave, I thought, was about motive. He starts off saying, ‘Yes, we have what we believe to be the motive,’ which is huge, because whenever you find motive, you find suspect.”
He continued: “That’s why they had the family go on television, making social media posts, making this plea, that’s why they orchestrated all of that.”
Savannah Guthrie has made several pleas to her mother’s captors, asking them to provide ‘proof of life’ and explaining that she will pay for her mother’s freedom.
So far, there has been no proof of life provided by the captors and, with both ransom deadlines now passed, it is uncertain as to whether the 84-year-old is indeed still alive.
What is the ‘motive’ in the Nancy Guthrie kidnapping case?
Sheriff Nanos recently conducted an interview with NBC News, where he explained how they have now established a motive for the kidnapping.
“We believe we know why he did this”, Nanos said, saying that authorities ‘believe it was targeted,’ but they were ‘not 100% sure of that.’
However, despite this, the sheriff has explained that he will not be sharing the ‘motive’ with the public at this time, so as not to compromise the integrity of the investigation.
Nanos also added that the kidnapper could strike again, and for the public in the Tucson area to ‘keep your wits about you.’

In his NBC interview, Nanos added: “It’d be silly to tell people, ‘Yeah, don’t worry about it. You’re not his target.’ Don’t think for a minute that because it happened to the Guthrie family, you’re safe.”
Coffindaffer believes that no proof of life being supplied could suggest that Nancy is, in fact, dead, after the initial two ransom deadlines were missed.
“I think that’s because it did go so wrong. They could not prove the life because she passed.”
The retired FBI agent also explained what the potential motive is linked to.
“That’s a roadmap to me…What were they looking at at the beginning? Kidnapping for ransom, kidnapping for ransom, that was the entirety of the theme.”
Savannah Guthrie last week on Instagram said in a video: “We feel the love and prayers from our neighbors, from the Tucson community and from around the country. … Please don’t stop praying and hoping with us. bring her home.”
