Gallagher, 55, was the frontman of one of the most well-known UK rock bands, Oasis.

While Smith, 30, is a Grammy award-winning artist who is known for popular tracks such as ‘Stay With Me’, ‘La La La’ and ‘I’m Not the Only One’.

They also caused a stir at the Brit Awards when they attended the red-carpet event in an inflatable black jumpsuit with shoulder padding.

Amid all this drama, Gallagher appeared on the Dutch radio station, Kink, to discuss the ‘current state of pop music’.

During his appearance, the ‘Wonderwall’ artist refers to the non-binary singer as ‘him’ and ‘uncool’.

Gallagher fumes (via The Mirror): “Music has become quite fractured and chart music is dominated by pop.

“Pop music is alright if the pop stars are cool. Sadly the stars of today are f***ing idiots.”

When questioned about which pop star in particular he’s referring to, the 55-year-old replies: “Sam Smith.”

Gallager is then quizzed on why he has an issue with Smith, and the artist responds: “Look at him!”

The Oasis member isn’t the only celebrity to have mocked the ‘I’m Not Here to Make Friends’ singer.

Following their dramatic entrance on the Brits red carpet, ex-Good Morning Britain presenter Piers Morgan took to Twitter and made his feelings clear.

“Methinks ‘they’ is getting a teeny weeny bit over-thirsty for attention. #BRITs,” the journalist tweeted.

Many of Smith’s fans took to the comments and criticised Morgan for mocking the star’s outfit.

One person remarked: “Yes, they’re a pop star. That’s what it’s about.”

Another added: “That’s the goal for celebs at these events. They all want to stand out. Good on them.”

Despite Morgan facing a backlash over his comments, it didn’t stop comedian Ricky Gervais also weighing in.

The After Life star reposted Smith’s outfit on Twitter, with his own head photoshopped over Smith’s.

He captioned the post: “The worst thing about being famous is the lack of privacy. I can’t even walk down the street without people looking and pointing.”

Similar to Morgan, Gervais also faced a ton of criticism over his tweet, with many people taking to the comments and defending Smith.

One Twitter user penned: “Yeah, but they’re not wearing that walking down the street on a normal day.

“They are at an event where everyone dresses up. Not too many people wear tuxedos or evening gowns going to the shops either.”

Somebody else wrote: “I must say, much as they aren’t my cup of tea, it doesn’t bother me what they are up to.

“In fact, I only see things about them from older men who seem increasingly upset about what younger generations are doing. This stuff happened in your generation too.

“You do know that, grandpa?”
