Russell Crowe has shared a disturbing paranormal experience he went through while filming his new horror movie.

The Oscar-winning actor, 59, is known for his roles in films such as Gladiator, The Nice Guys and LA Confidential.

Crowe is now set to star in his first-ever horror movie.

But it seems the Unhinged star experienced his own paranormal activity while shooting it.

The Pope’s Exorcist follows Father Gabriele Amorth (Crowe) – the Chief Exorcist for the Vatican – as he battles Satan and the innocent individuals who have been possessed.

The film is based on the life and writings of the Amorth, who apparently performed more than 100,000 exorcisms during his lifetime.

In particular, it is inspired by two of Amorth’s memoirs – ‘An Exorcist Tells His Story’ and ‘An Exorcist: More Stories’.

The Father took over the title of Chief Exorcist from his teacher Father Amantini after he died.

He also established the International Association of Exorcists in 1990.

While horror movies are supposed to scare audiences, it has been made known that some films have their own horror experiences while making them.

The Conjuring star Vera Farmiga found strange scratch marks on her computer screen.

While on the set of The Exorcist, a fire caused the MacNeil family house – except Regan’s room – to burn to the ground.

Apparently, during the production of the horror classic The Omen, several crew members involved with the film died.

Crowe has now shared with UNILAD what strange activities he experienced while shooting The Pope’s Exorcist.

The Robin Hood star reveals: “I think we were all aware of keeping ourselves sane throughout the course of the shoot.

“There were certainly little strange coincidental things happening but you’ve got to keep your balance with that.”

He specifically recalls one moment when he arrived home after shooting and discovered a dead bird in his doorway.

Crowe found this incident particularly strange as birds ‘are quite symbolic’ in The Pope’s Exorcist.

However, he rationalised this by telling himself that there must have been an animal in the woods nearby that noticed he hadn’t been home for a few days.

The Noah actor saw the funny side in it and felt it was leaving him a ‘welcome home gift’.

While Crowe admits that he is not a ‘horror fan’, he was attracted to this movie because he was fascinated by Amorth’s life.

The Pope’s Exorcist will be available to watch in cinemas from April 6 in the UK and April 14 in the US.
