Sam Smith has issued a statement after cancelling their gig mid-show.

The ‘Unholy’ singer, 31, is one of the UK’s biggest pop stars and has become known for their increasingly provocative image in the public eye.

Earlier this year, Smith made headlines for their bold Brits outfit and their ‘satanic’ performance at the Grammys.

However, they’re now a hot topic after cancelling their Manchester gig midway through.

Smith was performing at the AO Arena in Manchester when things went downhill.

During the performance, a power cut plunged the entire place into darkness and shocked fans were instructed to head to the foyer, as per The Mirror.

Smith’s concert was put to an abrupt end after just four songs – and it’s now been revealed that something was ‘really wrong’ with the star’s voice.

The ‘I’m Not The Only One’ artist has taken to Instagram to explain.

They say: “I don’t know what to say honestly. I fought off a virus a few weeks ago and since then we have travelled across Europe and had such incredible shows.

“Today in soundcheck I felt fine and was so excited to give Manchester an amazing show tonight, with a special surprise guest at the end.

“During my third song, I noticed something wrong with my voice. I prayed it was just my voice waking up for the show but into the fourth song I could feel something was really wrong.

“I came off stage and have tried everything to get my voice back in gear but it won’t. I am honestly heartbroken I couldn’t finish the show tonight for you all. I love you all. I’m sorry I’m sorry I’m sorry.”

Many of Smith’s fans have taken to Twitter to say they’ve been left disappointed.

One person tweets: “No idea what’s gone on at the Sam Smith concert but if it genuinely is vocal issues I think they need to put out a statement asap.

“Not fair to cause so much unnecessary worry and anxiety with such a significant week in Manchester.”

Another adds: “I was at the Sam Smith concert last night when they cancelled after four songs. Gutted as it was an incredible opening. Hope we can see the rest of it!”

Somebody else writes: “Sam Smith cancelled a concert after only four songs. Concerts are too frequently being cancelled after starting.

“If artists don’t want to perform or can’t perform, make the decision to cancel before the show starts. And at least a day earlier. Show some courtesy to fans.”
