Seann William Scott has claimed that he only got paid an $8,000 salary for his role in the first American Pie movie.

The Role Models star played Steve Stiffler in the hit comedy series that got released in 1999 and had four sequels.

The franchise has since grossed a total of $990 million worldwide on a combined budget of $147 million.

American Pie was Scott’s first feature-length acting role and it helped launch him into Hollywood stardom.

However, in an appearance on The Rich Eisen Show, he played a round of ‘Celebrity True or False’ and he claimed he only got paid an $8,000 salary, which he described as ‘a lot of money at the time’.

The Dude, Where’s My Car? star continued: “Yeah, because afterwards, I bought a used Thunderbird for like $5,000, or maybe $6k. I’m like, ‘Oh yeah, baby’.”

Scott then added that he can’t remember what happened to the other $2,000, as he had to work at the LA Zoo as a ‘churros guy’.

Eisen then asked about the pay, as American Pie was a major hit and was confused about how little he was paid, but the actor responded by saying he got paid before the film even came out.

Scott claimed: “It was before it came out. So I shot the movie, we’re waiting for it to come out.

“I got the Thunderbird, maybe I spent all of it on the Thunderbird, maybe it was like the entire $8k or $7k, and then I had this other job and then I worked at the LA Zoo, waiting for the movie to come out.”

Scott went on to mention that he only worked at the zoo for ‘two days’ and didn’t really get to see the animals.

Lucky for him, American Pie was a huge success as it grossed $234,723,148.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, for American Reunion, the fourth film in the series, he was paid a $5 million salary, along with a small percentage of the film’s profits.

The 2012 film grossed $236,799,211.

Scott reportedly now has a net worth of $25 million, so he has certainly come a long way since his appearance in the first American Pie film.

The actor has also starred in a number of films such as the action comedy Welcome To The Jungle, in which he appeared alongside Dwayne Johnson, and he also provided the voice of Crash in the Ice Age films.

There have been recent discussions of another American Pie movie being in the works, which is believed to be a ‘fresh take’ on the franchise.

However, Scott has previously stated that the raunchy comedy films couldn’t be made today as the jokes from the movies could get you ‘arrested’ and ‘sent to jail’.

In an interview with Jake’s Takes on YouTube, he explained: “You know, I was having a conversation with a friend the other day, I was like, ‘You could never make American Pie these days’.

“Some of the stuff in that movie, you would get arrested and probably go to jail for a long time if you did it.

“I think a lot of the broader comedies, a lot of the stuff that gave me a career, I don’t see there ever being an appetite for those sort of movies again.

“I mean, I could be wrong. I think some of the broad comedies can be fun but people are, it feels like, myself included, appreciating more of a witty, smart humour and good writing as opposed to just something kind of over-the-top.”
