Sha’Carri Richardson has said that the ‘only difference between her Kamila Valieva is that she’s black,’ following the 15-year-old’s Olympic drug scandal.
The US track star, who missed the summer Games after testing positive for THC (an intoxicant that is found in marijuana), took to Twitter on February 14 and fumed over the situation.
She tweeted: “Can we get a solid answer on the difference of her situation and mine? My mother died and I can’t run and was also favoured to place top 3. The only difference I see is I’m a black young lady.”

Richardson’s comments come after it was announced that the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) ruled that Valieva could continue to compete at the Winter Olympic Games, despite having a positive doping test.
This ruling was apparently made as the international body decided that it could cause the teenager ‘irreparable harm’.
However, she could possibly be banned in the upcoming weeks.
The doping scandal all started when the World Anti-Doping Agency-approved Stockholm laboratory reported that Valieva tested positive for the drug trimetazidine. Typically, this is used as a treatment for chest pains.

Last year, Richardson was forced to miss the event when she tested positive for marijuana.
At the time, she claimed that she had used the drug to cope with the loss of her biological mother, after being informed she had passed away.
The 21-year-old explained: “From there, just blinded by emotions, blinded by bad news, blinded by just hiding hurt, honestly for the fact that I can’t hide myself, so at least in some type of way, I was trying to hide my pain.”
