An acrobat has tragically fallen to her death while performing a hair-raising stunt with her husband.

Accidents and injuries are unfortunately not uncommon in the acrobatics industry, particularly in high-risk performances that involve aerial acrobatics, trapeze, and other dangerous manoeuvres.

Safety measures and regulations vary widely depending on the location and type of performance, and the level of training and experience of the performers involved.

Now, the death of Chinese acrobat Sun Moumou during an aerial silks performance in Anhui province has prompted shock and outrage on social media.

Following the tragedy, the absence of a safety belt or net beneath the couple has prompted serious questions and concerns.

An investigation has found that the Anhui Yaxi Performing Arts Media Company, which was contracted by a local farmer to run the performance, failed to obtain approval from authorities prior to the show.

It was also found that they did not provide essential safety protection or emergency measures during the performance.

While the use of a crane in the performance was also found to be a violation of regulations.

The company has been criticised for its lack of safety measures and is facing a backlash on social media.

The China Acrobats Association has called for greater attention to safety measures in the wake of the tragedy.

The association expressed devastation and shock at Sun’s death.

A state-run news website, The Paper, reports that Sun leaves behind two children and her husband of over a decade.

The Paper also alleges that at the show, the host had boasted that no safety measures were provided to the performers in order to create a more authentic performance.

The shocking incident was actually captured on video and it is now going viral on Chinese social media platforms.

One comment on China’s Twitter-like Weibo platform says (via CNN): “This kind of mid-air acrobatic performance is really dangerous.

“At least put a safety net underneath so the (performer) can be protected from falling.

“No matter how skilled the performers are, there will always be mistakes. How come there are no safety measures?”

The tragic loss of Sun Moumou has prompted a national conversation about safety in the performing arts, and industry leaders have been called upon to take action to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.

Many industry organisations and associations have been working to improve safety standards and raise awareness about the risks associated with acrobatics.

However, there is still much work to be done to prevent accidents and protect the lives and well-being of performers.
