A flight attendant is warning holidaymakers not to wear flip-flops or Crocs on a plane.

Choosing what to wear when flying is an important choice – as you want to be as comfortable as possible considering you will be sitting for a long period of time.

Some passengers will choose to wear comfortable clothing such as jogging bottoms and hoodies.

However, a flight attendant now has bad news for you if you like wearing flip-flops or Crocs while travelling.

Andre Fischbach, a stewardess with American Airlines, has shared why certain footwear shouldn’t be worn on flights.

She says this kind of footwear can pose a danger during an emergency exit and to other passengers.

Speaking to Who What Wear, Fischbach explains: “Heels can possibly cause further damage to emergency exits or hurt others if they go flying off somehow.

“I would really advise against high heels or flip-flops or any slides, mostly for safety purposes.

“If there is an evacuation and slides are required, your high heels will have to come off, as they can puncture the slide.

“Who knows where and in what conditions you’ll land? Plus, they aren’t very practical running gate to gate.”

Fischbach adds that flip-flops and Crocs are impractical as your feet are likely to get cold during a long flight.

The stewardess goes on to say that it can also lead to an unsanitary experience.

She continues: “Be wary of wearing sandals if you are planning on going in the lavatory.

“That isn’t water on the floor (yes, use your imagination), and sandals invite whatever that liquid is to splash on your feet.”

Fischbach admits that despite wearing high heels for her job, she and her coworkers tend to take them off during flights as they are uncomfortable.

This is why she recommends that passengers shouldn’t wear them either.

Fischbach also warns passengers not to wear sports bras and leggings on flights – as they can be a fire hazard, as well as constricting.

“I would advise against anything really constricting,” says Fischbach. “You want to get the most comfortable you can be to avoid cramping, swelling, and anything that can affect you later.

“It’s very important to be able to move around a bit in your seat—very difficult, I know—and keep your blood flowing.

“If you are tall, travel a lot, or are on a long flight, this is extremely important because you face the risk of developing deep vein thrombosis (DVT).”

DVT occurs when a blood clot forms in a vein, usually in the legs.

Instead, the stewardess recommends that you layer up and pack a lightweight jacket or cashmere hoodie.

She also advises that you should bring an extra pair of thick socks for warmth.
