Have you ever heard of misophonia? Well, there’s a test you can do to see if you have it and it’s leaving people’s ‘skin crawling’.

Misophobia is a disorder in which certain sounds can lead to emotional or physiological responses that ‘some might perceive as unreasonable given the circumstance’, as per WebMB.

People who have misophonia have said that the reactions can range from anger and annoyance to panic and the need to leave the area.

It is sometimes known as selective sound sensitivity syndrome.

But if you want to know if you’ve been diagnosed with it, the test you will have to undergo may be an unpleasant one.

The Misophonia Hub TikTok page has shared a video of some of the most triggering sounds that people with the disorder have reported.

The post starts off with a definition for misophonia which reads: “Misophonia is a selective sound sensitivity syndrome that starts with a trigger. Also, sometimes referred to as a ‘hatred or dislike of sound’.

“Specific sounds could trigger emotional distress, anger and elicit behavioural responses.

“Misophonia can be common among individuals with OCD, anxiety disorders, or even Tourette Syndrome.”

The video then displays a disclaimer for anyone who may be affected to not continue.

First on the list is the sound of ‘chewing’ – which we can all agree isn’t a pleasant noise at all.

Unfortunately, listening to the sound on this test is as if someone is munching on some food right up next to your ear.

The next noise is ‘lip smacking’ which is only slightly more tolerable than the sound of chewing.

Third on the list is ‘pencil tapping’ which well not as gross as the two previous entries, is still equally as annoying.

Following this is ‘plastic crumbling’ which is a noise we are all familiar with, whether it be searching through the house for shopping bags or rummaging through a bag of crisps.

Fifth on the list is ‘slow typing’, which I’m sure everyone has been irritated by at some point in their life.

Following that is the noise that personally irritates me the most… ‘slurping’.

And last but probably the most relatable is ‘sniffling’ – which is definitely something we all go through every winter.

People who have seen the video have taken to social media to share their own experiences.

“THE CHEWING GOT ME CRYING FOR 10 DAMN MINUTES…” writes one person.

Another viewer adds: “The entire video had my skin crawling and full-on anxiety and I’m literally still crying. Also was about to yeet my headphones.”

“Chewing and slurping is the worst for me so I automatically had to stop,” pens a third.

“I cried and screamed at the top of my lungs during this,” writes someone else.

A fifth viewer comments: “NO I LITERALLY feel like I’m going to puke like omg I was like grabbing my ears.”
