Teen Mistakenly Moves Into Retirement Village After Only Viewing Flat Online
A teen has revealed how she accidentally moved herself into a retirement village after only viewing the apartment online.
We all know that online adverts for properties can be misleading, and sometimes you can turn up at a house viewing and find them unrecognisable.
But when Madison Kohout was moving from Oklahoma to Arkansas, she had no choice but to trust the online viewing before packing up her life and moving halfway across America.
At the time, the TikTok content creator was just 19, so finding a place that would keep her safe, within a limited budget, was paramount.
When she first discovered the two-bedroom apartment available for an unbelievable bargain of just $350 a rent, she quickly snapped it up without asking too many questions.
A big surprise after arriving at her new home
When Madison arrived at her new home, she found that, yes her apartment looked just like the pictures and yes, it was lovely and safe. But, what she hadn’t bargained for, was that all of her neighbours would be senior citizens.
Over the course of her first week in the apartment, Madison began to notice a distinct lack of people under the age of 65 on the complex, and it wasn’t until she stumbled across a sign explaining the fact she was actually in a senior living community that she understood why.
After making the hilarious discovery, the content creator took to TikTok, where she shared a video of herself browsing for apartments on her laptop, before posing in front of a sign, which reads: “Senior Citizens Apartments.”
The clip quickly garnered millions of views, prompting Madison to answer a few questions about how she found herself in this situation and how it was all going.

“How is life at the old folks home you might ask? Let me show you,” she says, before leading the camera into her apartment.
“Well, whenever I get home it’s usually super quiet, because most of my neighbours are asleep by the time I get home.”
Madison went on to say that one “major perk” about the apartment is that she can play music whenever she wants to, because “some of them can’t hear.”
“Another fun thing about living in the old folks home is I can always hear about the ‘tea’ in the town whenever I want,” she said, before adding that another positive is that whenever she comes home from a long day at work “everyone always asks how I’m doing”.
She even joked: “Just remember, if you’re struggling with rent, start your early retirement!”
People on TikTok were actually pretty impressed with the mishap, and some were even jealous of the fact Madison was able to live in such a relaxed environment for such an affordable amount of rent.
“I’ve actually thought about that… quiet, kind old people, QUIET,” one wrote. “Yeah, may still consider.”
Another joked: “How is this not the plot of a famous TV show yet???”
“They allowed you to move into the senior apartments?!” a third asked. “What a dream! Those places are so nice.”
A fourth TikToker told a slightly concerning tale, commenting: “One time I did this, one night before I moved in it was featured on a TV show cops for a homicide. So I found a roommate on Craigslist and didn’t die.”
How she was able to move into a retirement village
Madison never would’ve been able to move into her affordable, spacious retirement village home if it wasn’t for the fact the 10-apartment complex had an ‘equal opportunity housing’ status, which meant they were unable to discriminate based on age.
In fact, it was through a recommendation from her adopted mom Gigi, who she met through posting on TikTok, that she found the apartment. Madison decided to make the big move to be closer to Gigi and her new family.
Thank goodness it all worked out for the best and she ended up living in the retirement village for more than six months before moving into a home in a slightly less quiet complex.
