A mom-to-be has furiously canceled her baby shower after discovering her family and friends had been talking badly about her baby name.

It’s no secret that choosing a baby name is a deeply personal decision. After all, trends come and go, but that child will have the name for life.

Some people choose to go down the traditional route, sticking to names that have been around for centuries, often with religious ties, such as Matthew, Mark, Luke or Mohammed.

Meanwhile, others try to be as original as possible to ensure their little ones don’t grow up with anyone having the same name as them; something which can be both a blessing and a curse.

The desire to have unique baby names most certainly stems from celebrity culture, with many stars opting to name their children with words that have never previously been considered a human ‘name’ before.

For example, Kim Kardashian and Kanye West’s eldest daughter North West, Beyonce and Jay-Z’s only daughter Blue Ivy, or Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin’s eldest child Apple Martin. Don’t even get us started on Nick Cannon’s brood.

Baby names banned around the world

But while naming your children something out of the ordinary has become somewhat of the norm these days, in some parts of the world there are rules in place to make sure no one takes it too far.

According to experts from language learning platform Preply, names that are offensive, culturally inappropriate, or simply too bizarre have landed on forbidden lists across the globe.

One of the most puzzling examples is Brfxxccxxmnpcccclllmmnprxvclmnckssqlbb11116, a name proposed by Swedish parents in protest against Sweden’s strict naming laws.

Although they claimed it was pronounced ‘Albin,’ the name was swiftly rejected by authorities in 1996 and remains banned.

Meanwhile, France has reportedly banned the name Fraise, meaning ‘strawberry,’ due to the crude connotation of the phrase ‘ramène ta fraise,’ which roughly translates to ‘get your butt over here.’

In New Zealand, officials were forced to step in when a set of parents attempted to name their twin babies Fish and Chips. How very culturally British of them.

Mom-to-be cancels baby shower over name

Now, back to the mom-to-be, who was forced to cancel her own baby shower after learning that invited attendees had been mocking her chosen baby name.

The woman, who has not been identified, is said to have taken to Facebook to break the news.

“I have a really important announcement to make. It brings me pain to have to tell you this, but I am cancelling the event,” she wrote, as per People.

The expectant mother went on to say she was planning to have a significantly smaller ‘inclusive party’ because ‘at least here, no one will judge me.’

“Why? Why am I doing this? Because y’all have been talking s*** about my unborn baby. AN UNBORN CHILD. How can you judge an unborn child? What is wrong with you?” she raged in the post.

“To say this frankly, my friends and family have treated me like total s***. They’ve spread rumors and lies about my child. No, I am not crazy. No, I was not drunk when I named my child.”

And what is the name in question, I know you’re all begging to know… Squire Sebastian Senator. Read that again. Squire Sebastian Senator.

It’s certainly unique, but the mom-to-be did go on to explain she came from a ‘long lasting family of Squires and Senators,’ adding that the name ‘conveys power, wealth and success.’

“My baby’s name WILL be a revolution,” she added. “It will push people to question everything. Why name your baby boring and over-used names like Joshua, Brian, Sam, Nick, Mark, Bella, Marina etc, when you can name it something special.”

She concluded her message by saying her son, Squire Sebastian Senator, will ‘live a powerful, wholesome life,’ and his name will allow him to be extraordinary. The mom-to-be signed off with an expletive and telling people they won’t be a part of her baby’s life because they all ‘had to judge him.’
