A woman is going viral on TikTok after slamming a famous restaurant which ‘doesn’t cater for vegans‘.

The number of vegans is quickly rising from year to year, with many wanting to do their best to help the planet.

Only 150,000 people identified themselves as vegan in the UK back in 2014, according to The Goodness Project.

Five years later, a notable jump was made – with a whopping 600,000 people keeping up a plant-based lifestyle.

So if the number is steadily rising, it surely makes sense for this to be reflected in where vegans can eat and drink.

Well, one woman on TikTok, who goes by the name Amie-Beth, has made it clear this isn’t the case – or at least that it’s not happening at a fast enough rate.

The vegan says she decided to visit the highly popular Sheesh restaurant in Essex after being recommended it by her mum.

She simply wanted to catch up with a friend while enjoying a nice meal, however, she quickly found this wouldn’t be possible.

Amie-Beth claims she had previously been to the eatery and that on this occasion, she had been told she couldn’t simply order sides from the menu – as there weren’t any vegan options on the main menu.

To check the situation wouldn’t be the same, the TikToker alleges she rang up the restaurant to check whether its policy had been updated since the last time she had visited.

Amie Beth claims: “We rang them up [and said] basically my friend wants to come, she’s a vegan so there’s nothing on the main menu she can order, would it be OK if she just ordered sides? Because she’s been before and that wasn’t allowed?”

She claims a woman on the other side of the phone responded: “We don’t cater for vegans…

“I don’t even know why a vegan would even want to come to our restaurant anyway.”

Amie-Beth says that one of the reasons she thought it would be a great spot to meet up with her friend was because she wanted to get ‘dressed up’.

She adds that she’s aware of its celebrity clientele and that ‘people don’t just go there for the food they do genuinely just go there for the vibes’.

Concluding the video, Amie-Beth says: “It’s 2023, being a vegan isn’t weird.

“We were just asking a question, fair enough if that’s your policy, but… I just can’t believe that a restaurant that is so well-known would be so rude.”

Amie-Beth’s video has been viewed more than 50,000 times and many people have taken to the comments and said they agree with the TikToker.

One viewer writes: “If a restaurant doesn’t offer vegan, vegetarian or gluten-free options in 2023 it’s dead! No excuse.”

Another adds: “I’m not vegan but what actually is their issue with vegans ordering sides or spending money in their restaurant.”

“That’s so bizarre, they’re losing out on a whole lot of custom lol like what,” somebody else remarks.

However, others have taken to the comments and defended the restaurant, arguing that the restaurant is known for its barbeque food.

“It is a meat restaurant though,” one person argues.

In agreement, another viewer says: “Why would a vegan wanna go to an authentic Turkish restaurant, cos their dishes mostly consist of meat?”

IGV approached Sheesh for comment but received no response.
