An anti-vegan ‘sausage expert’ was tricked into eating a ‘lovely’ plant-based sausage live on TV

The moment unfolded on an episode of Jeremy Vine’s popular daytime show on Channel 5.

Vine invites numerous panellists on his self-titled show, who discuss the latest news, views and opinions with him.

A recent segment titled ‘Stop calling vegan sausages ‘sausages” featured English journalist, radio presenter, and self-proclaimed ‘sausage expert’ Mike Parry.

Vine asked Parry to try out two sausage sandwiches and identify which one is vegan.

Walking over to Parry with two plates, the host said: “Here are two sandwiches and I’m going to give them to Mike.

“You’ve got to tell me right, of these, which is the real meat sandwich.”

Vine then asked Parry whether he’d like red or brown sauce on his sandwich.

The guest declined this offer, insisting it could ‘disguise’ which sandwich was which.

The panellist proceeded to take a bite out of each sandwich and then took a glass of water.

After deliberating his answer, Parry declared: “It is absolutely obvious to me that this first one is the false sausage, OK.

“That’s not a real sausage. That’s cardboard.

“This second one is clearly the real sausage. I could taste the meat in it.”

He added: “It was luscious and lovely. Tasted a bit like the one I had this morning.

“This is the winner.”

The camera then showed Vine appearing amused by his answer, as he commented: “Very interesting.”

The host then walked over to the other side of the studio and brought out two more plates topped with sandwiches.

Vine said: “The answer is, is that the meat sausage is actually down here Mike. You’ve just eaten two vegan sandwiches.

“You I think are a vegan in disguise!”

Appearing dumbfounded, Parry replied: “Not at all. What an underhanded, downright rotten trick to put on a man whose reputation now as the ‘great sausage butty king’ is ruined.”

In response to this, Vine asked: “How do you feel that mistake was made? You’ve tasted sausage, right?”

Parry responded: “All I can say is, that that’s cardboard and that’s sort of almost cardboard. Call it tissue paper.

“I shall take a bite out of the real sausage.”

People are now sharing clips of the hilarious moment on Twitter, where they are mocking Parry’s title of being the ‘sausage expert’.

One tweeted: “Lol, hilarious how he tries to backtrack after saying the vegan sausage tastes just like the one he had in the morning.”

“He made it worse by pretending to change his mind about the one he basically described as pretty great,” added another.

While a third remarked: “Beautiful bamboozled.”

Alongside a laughing emoji, one remarked: “What an idiot.”

“Now that’s what I call embarrassing,” someone else commented.
