The world of mixed martial arts has been hit with some shocking and saddening news as MMA star Alexander Pisarev has died aged 33.

The circumstances of the fearless Russian’s death have left everyone shaking their heads in disbelief.

The tragedy unfolded when Pisarev’s father discovered his lifeless body in their Moscow apartment, as per The Sun US.

Before this, Pisarev had built an impressive professional MMA record of 3 wins and 2 losses.

But his promising journey was cut short far too soon, leaving the MMA community in a state of shock.

An undisclosed member of Pisarev’s Tomahawk team shed some light on the circumstances surrounding his untimely passing.

They told the Russian news agency TASS: “Alexander Pisarev died in his sleep and did not have any chronic health problems.

“According to preliminary data, death was the result of food poisoning.”

The rumour mill has been buzzing about the specific food item that led to this tragedy.

Although unconfirmed, it’s been widely reported that Pisarev might have fallen victim to a poisoned watermelon.

Alongside his wife, Pisarev allegedly consumed this seemingly innocent fruit, which unfortunately turned out to be anything but harmless.

There are reports that his wife was also affected by whatever tainted the watermelon, which landed her in hospital.

However, they had also eaten other items, adding a layer of complexity to the case.

Pisarev’s father, Igor Vladimirovich, made the harrowing discovery after returning from walking the family dog.

He recalls to Pravda: “I looked into the room — Alexander and his wife were sleeping.

“I came closer and then realised that my son was no longer breathing.

“There were fractures of the fingers after the last fights, but this is nothing. We all eat the same food, we live together.”

The grieving father expressed disbelief over the situation, stating that despite any injuries his son might have sustained from his fights, their shared food couldn’t have been the cause.

The watermelon theory has been met with scepticism, considering that melons aren’t typically associated with causing such dire consequences.

However, it’s worth noting that melon skins can become contaminated during growth, handling, storage, and transportation, leading to potential foodborne illnesses.

This isn’t the first time melons have made headlines in such a grim context either.

A Salmonella outbreak in Norway and similar cases in the UK were traced back to melons from certain origins.

Relatives of Pisarev have stood firm in asserting that he was in good health, free from chronic ailments.

To provide clarity in this perplexing situation, an autopsy has been ordered.

The Moscow Region Investigative Committee is now on the case, stating that they are thoroughly investigating Pisarev’s poisoning-related death.

A forensic chemical examination is in the works, with hopes of finding the truth behind this tragic event.

They said: “In Balashikha, an investigation was organized into the death of an athlete as a result of poisoning.

“Investigators, with the participation of a forensic specialist, are conducting an additional inspection of the scene, confiscating items relevant to the investigation, and planning a forensic chemical examination.”

Pisarev was trying hard to make it to the MMA European Championships final before his untimely passing.

He proudly fought under the banners of Absolute Championship Berkut and Fight Nights Global, showcasing his unwavering spirit and determination in every bout.

Pisarev’s team at Tomahawk released a heartfelt statement, mourning the loss of not just a fighter, but a brother and friend.

They said: “My brother, my friend, my student! Words cannot express the extent of the loss.

“Alexander Pisarev is the standard of friendship, decency and courage of a Russian person.

“I and we will miss you!!! Rest in peace our brother.”
