Netflix fans are going crazy over a ‘hidden gem’ series that people are claiming is ‘better than Game Of Thrones‘.

The hugely popular HBO series is considered the benchmark when it comes to fantasy dramas on TV.

Previously, viewers had stated The Last Kingdom – which is also on Netflix – as a series that is as good as Game Of Thrones.

Now, subscribers have found a hidden gem on the streaming service which they are claiming is actually better than the iconic drama.

Black Sails is a prequel adaptation of the Robert Louis Stevenson novel ‘Treasure Island’ – which is a coming-age story about a twelve-year-old boy, Jim Hawkins, who finds a treasure map that belonged to a pirate, Captain Flint.

The TV series tells the story of Captain Flint as the feared pirate fights for the survival of New Providence Island after the pirates in the West Indies are declared enemies of mankind.

It stars the likes of Toby Stephens (Die Another Day), Hannah New (Maleficient), Jessica Parker Kennedy (The Flash) and Tom Hopper (The Umbrella Academy).

The show ran for four seasons on STARZ from 2014 to 2017 but was cancelled – with series co-creator and executive producer Jonathan E. Steinberg explaining that they couldn’t ‘imagine anything’ past a fourth series, as per Deadline.

He said: “While it was a difficult decision for us to make this season our last, we simply couldn’t imagine anything beyond it that would make for a better ending to the story nor a more natural handoff to ‘Treasure Island’.”

Fortunately, it will be getting a new lease of life as it will be dropping on Netflix in early 2024 and viewers have heaped praise on the show in anticipation of its release.

One person said: “I’ll never stop recommending Black Sails. It’s basically Game of Thrones but with pirates.”

Someone else adds: “Black Sails is finally on Netflix and if you haven’t seen it it’s better than Game of Thrones, it’s a proper 10/10 show.”

A third writes: I’m looking forward to seeing more people discovering Black Sails on Netflix and the show getting a big boost.

“It’s such a great show and very under-watched. Largely because it’s on Starz. If it was on HBO, Netflix or Amazon I really think it would’ve been at least as popular as The Boys.”

Another viewer comments: “At its best, it’s way better than average GoT episode, but the best GoT eps are better.

“The large budget difference and broader cast help keep GoT better on average but BS has its own strengths.

“It also truly wears its ‘no heroes’ badge well, with everyone really out for themselves, whereas GoT morphed into a good vs evil eventually.”

Black Sails is such a great show. I highly recommend checking it out when it becomes available on Netflix,” pens a fifth.
