Lewis Capaldi has shared a sad health update as he makes ‘the most difficult decision’ of his life.

Capaldi, 26, is a Scottish singer-songwriter who is known for popular tracks such as ‘Before You Go’ and ‘Someone You Loved’.

Last year, the ‘Wish You The Best’ artist announced in an emotional Instagram live that he has been diagnosed with Tourette’s syndrome.

According to the NHS, Tourette’s syndrome is a neurological condition that causes you to make involuntary movements and sounds called tics.

Tics may be triggered by stress, anxiety, excitement and a series of other emotions.

Capaldi recently took a three-week break from performing and then came back for his highly-anticipated performance at Glastonbury over the weekend.

During his performance, the 26-year-old appeared visibly emotional as he struggled on stage with the condition.

At one point, he told the crowd: “I’m going to be honest everybody but I’m starting to lose my voice up here, but we’re going to keep going and we’re going to go until the end.

“I just need you all to sing with me as loud as you can if that’s OK?”

Capaldi pressed on through the performance as adoring fans cheered him on and helped him to finish his last song.

Days after the hour-long set, the ‘Pointless’ singer has broken his silence.

In a statement, Capaldi says he is ‘still learning to adjust to the impact of my Tourette’s’ and that he will be taking a break for the ‘foreseeable future’.

He penned: “First of all, thank you to Glastonbury for having me, for singing along when I needed it and for all the amazing messages afterwards. It really does mean the world.

“The fact that this probably won’t come as a surprise doesn’t make it any easier to write, but I’m very sorry to let you know I’m going to be taking a break from touring for the foreseeable future.

“I used to be able to enjoy every second of shows like this and I’d hoped three weeks away would sort me out.

“But the truth is I’m still learning to adjust to the impact of my Tourette’s and on Saturday it became obvious that I need to spend much more time getting my mental and physical health in order, so I can keep doing everything I love for a long time to come.”

He continued: “I know I’m incredibly fortunate to be able to take some time out when others can’t and I’d like to thank my amazing family, friends, team, medical professionals and all of you who’ve been so supportive every step of the way through the good times and even more so during this past year when I’ve needed it more than ever.

“I’m so incredibly sorry to everyone who had planned to come to a show before the end of the year but I need to feel well to perform at the standard you all deserve.

“Playing for you every night is all I’ve ever dreamed of so this has been the most difficult decision of my life.

“I’ll be back as soon as I possibly can.”

Many of Capaldi’s fans have taken to the comments and shared their support for the singer through this difficult time.

“Big loves,” one fan says. “You need to put you first! You’ve got this.”

Another adds: “Never apologise for looking after yourself… there is only one of you! We’ve all got your back Lewis!”
