Sam Smith And Kim Petras’ ‘Satanic’ Grammys Performance Could See TV Network Fined
Sam Smith and Kim Petras’ controversial Grammys performance could see the TV network it was broadcast on fined.
Oscar-winning singer Smith, 30, is arguably one of the biggest artists in the world.
Known for their hits such as ‘Stay With Me’, ‘Money On My Mind’, and ‘Diamonds’, they have dominated the charts for the last decade.
However, their recent hit – ‘Unholy’ featuring Petras – has caused a stir among viewers.

Smith performed the song with Petras at the 65th Grammy Awards, however, it was met with backlash due to its ‘satanic’ imagery.
During the routine, the pair wore horned headgear and bright red clothing, with the stage dimmed in dark red lighting.
It seemed to upset viewers as TMZ retrieved 18 complaints filed to Federal Communications Commission (FCC) due to the ‘devil worshipping’ and ‘p***ographic’ imagery that was visible throughout the performance.

One complaint says: “Sam Smith’s performance of Unholy at the Grammy’s was indecent and satanic.
“I will be cancelling my television service due to this and their prior history of having similar performances.”
Another viewer adds: “Shameful and disgusting. I watched a portion of the Grammys last night. Unfortunately, I happened to see the Devil Worship component of the program.
“I will never tune in to CBS again. Shame on you.”

“This performance was satanic and can increase violence against Christians. This material was not appropriate for public TV and minors,” explains a third.
Someone else berates: “Sam Smith performed a raunchy, anti-Christian performance that mocked everything Christians hold dear.
“Sam was wearing devil horns on stage with flames in the background along with performing a satanic ritual on national television.”
Meanwhile, a fifth viewer says: “Satanic evil full blasted on a TV that teens and young adults are influenced by. This was not an award show at all. More like a Satanic Mass.”
Their performance could cost the broadcaster – CBS – a sum of money if the FCC act on the complaints.
The FCC states: “It is a violation of federal law to air obscene programming at any time. It is also a violation of federal law to broadcast indecent or profane programming during certain hours.”
This would not be the first time that CBS has been fined by the FCC, as the broadcaster was penalised after Janet Jackson’s infamous wardrobe malfunction during the 2004 Super Bowl halftime performance.
The fine cost $550,000, which was a record at the time.

Smith has found himself in the news after dividing opinion with their viral Brits red-carpet outfit.
The ‘Dancing With a Stranger’ artist showed up to the iconic music awards in a custom-made black, balloon-like latex suit which featured puffed-up legs and shoulders.
Celebrities like Piers Morgan and Ricky Gervais have both made swipes at Smith’s outfit.
However, the man who created it has defended it, explaining that the design is all about ‘celebrating’ Smith’s ‘natural form’.
