Elon Musk has hit out at viral videos of DINK couples, insisting that their lifestyle is an ‘awful morality’.

The Tesla co-founder, 52, is the world’s wealthiest man and he has huge stakes in a number of companies.

As well as being known as a successful businessman, Musk is also known for his outspoken views on having kids.

The billionaire, who has 11 children, has previously tweeted that he’s ‘doing his best to help the underpopulation crisis’.

So when videos of DINK couples began trending on social media, Musk had a lot to say about it.

At this point, you’re probably wondering… what is a DINK couple?

Well, the DINK lifestyle involves couples who don’t want children and as a result, have a lot more disposable income.

The acronym stands for ‘Dual Income, No Kids’.

Lilly Anne and her husband Evan went viral after posting a video about their lifestyle on TikTok, claiming that it’s a great way to live.

“We’re DINKs,” Lilly says. “We’re going to get asked daily when we plan on having kids.”

Pitching in, her spouse says: “We’re DINKs. Of course we’re going to go out to eat every night after work.”

The couple say they have tons of money to spend on themselves, and that regularly attending football matches and playing golf is one of the luxuries they can enjoy – without worrying about the finances that come along with kids.

Although the couple is harming nobody with their decision, many people have taken to the comments and slammed the pair.

“Kids are so much better than money,” insists one viewer.

A second says: “Been there, done that… It’s better with kids.”

While somebody else comments: “Kids are definitely worth it.”

And Musk himself has stepped in, taking to X (formerly known as Twitter) and writing: “There is an awful morality to those who deliberately have no kids: they are effectively demanding that other people’s kids take care of them in their old age.”

He adds: “That’s messed up.”

In response, some people have taken to the comments and reminded Musk that having someone to take care of you when you’re older is ‘not the reason people should be having kids’.

Others have pointed out that typically, the elderly are looked after by ‘professional caretakers’ and not their own children.

While Musk may just be hearing about the concept of DINK couples, it’s actually an acronym that was first coined in 1987, according to Bustle.

A Los Angeles Times article investigated the concept of DINK couples at the time and it was credited as a way for baby boomers to ‘beat inflation and income stagnation’.

The article noted that the term had already been used by the New York magazine a month prior. Hence, the term began.

As inflation continues to be an issue in this day and age, it comes as no surprise that DINK couples continue to be a trend.
