People are taking to social media and saying a horror movie from 2007 has the most unexpected plot twist of all time.

Nothing is better than cosying up and opening up the likes of Netflix or Prime Video to find the latest horror film.

From Vivarium to It Follows, streaming services have tons of content to keep you gripped and leave you guessing when the next jump scare will take you off guard.

Horror movie fanatics have now taken to X (formerly known as Twitter) to share one movie that has one of the most unexpected plot twists of all time.

The film has a positive score of 73% on Rotten Tomatoes, with many viewers praising the film’s ‘gut-wrenching’ ending.

Despite being released all the way back in 2007, horror movie fans are still rushing to X to share their opinions on it.

One user says: “Revisited it in B&W, which enhances the viewing experience. It gives it that old-timey monster movie feel, and the CGI looks better, and that ending… It’s still a gut punch.”

“I forgot how good it is. This ending still hits so hard,” adds a second user.

A third user quips: “Mondays + this gut-wrenching ending = PURE HORROR.”

“Thought that was enjoyable, that ending was something,” says a fourth user. “Best ending to a horror I’ve ever seen.”

Another person pens: “It has aged well with time, and the black-and-white version (which is the director’s preferred version) looks beautiful on the new 4K disc.

“Such a damn good film with one of the best endings in a Stephen King adaptation.”

The movie in question is a 2007 horror, which is an adaptation of Stephen King’s 1980 novella of the same name.

If you’re unfamiliar with the source material, the story follows a freak storm in Maine that creepily unleashes a species of inhuman creatures in a small town.

A bunch of locals gather together and find themselves locked in a grocery store as they begin to fight for their lives.

However, as with most horror movies, there is a twist that comes as it appears there is a threat within.

The spine-tingling movie boasts a star-studded cast that includes the likes of Thomas Jane (The Punisher), Marcia Gay Harden (Flubber), and Laurie Holden (The Walking Dead) to name a few.

The Mist is written and directed by Frank Darabont, who is the man behind the critically acclaimed movies The Shawshank Redemption and The Green Mile, as well as working on seasons one and two of the Emmy Award-winning series The Walking Dead.

Following the release of The Mist in colour, Darabont dropped a black-and-white cut of the film to make viewers feel like they were watching a movie from the 1950s or 60s.

Speaking to Classic-horror.com, the director explained: “I think it’s a tonal thing. It puts my head right back into that low-budget, Night of the Living Dead era of filmmaking. Or just prior to that, with some of the crazy, big-budget science fiction movies.

“Which, to my mind, black-and-white kind of enhances in a way. Puts me back into the headspace of that nine, ten, eleven-year-old kid who stayed up to all hours, this was pre-video, mind you, to catch some old movie on the tube ‘cause it was a horror picture.”

He added that the black-and-white version is his preferred version to watch The Mist, but it isn’t necessarily the best version, as he believes each viewer will have their own opinion.
