Frankie Muniz has offered a heartbreaking answer as to where Erik Per Sullivan – the actor who played Dewey – has been since the TV show Malcolm in the Middle ended.

Since the iconic Malcolm in the Middle ended on May 14, 2006, after seven seasons and 151 episodes, it’s never been far from viewers’ hearts.

Everyone who grew up around the early 00s remembers their obsession with Malcolm and his dysfunctional family and school life.

The undeniable star of the show was Frankie Muniz, who played the titular Malcolm.

But another firm fan favourite was Dewey, Malcolm’s adorable younger brother.

However, in the time since the show’s end, Dewey (aka Erik Per Sullivan) has been on a rather bizarre trajectory…

The majority of the Malcolm in the Middle cast have enjoyed successful careers since the show’s end.

Perhaps the most prolific of the bunch has been Brian Cranston, who famously starred in Breaking Bad.

But Per Sullivan, the actor who played Dewey, had his last major role in 2010 in the thriller movie Twelve, as per IMDb.

Since then, the now 32-year-old has kept an extremely low profile.

In fact, he’s essentially missing from public life.

And what’s even more heartbreaking is how this decision has impacted his relationship with his on-screen brother.

Muniz gave an update on Per Sullivan in a recent interview, and it’s left the internet feeling emotional.

He explained during an interview on the Malcolm France YouTube channel: “To be honest, I don’t know what he’s up to. I hate to say that because I’ve talked to him a few times since the show ended.

“I’ve talked to his parents a lot. When I was in the band, we went and played in the city where he lives and his parents came to the show but unfortunately he couldn’t make it.

“So I got to talk to them, and he’s been all over doing a lot of different things.”

Muniz added: “But one thing I know, some actors or some people just got to do it when they were a kid and then they wanted to experience other things and kind of live a more normal life out of the spotlight.

“I think that’s what he wanted to do, so good for him.”

The mystery of what exactly is going on with Per Sullivan has kept fans guessing for many years.

In 2020, an Instagram account claiming to belong to the star took the internet by surprise – although the page is still yet to be verified by the platform.

The account has shared some images of Per Sullivan looking older but hasn’t offered any concrete insights into what’s actually going on in his life – if it is really his profile.

The account’s most recent post, one year ago, celebrates the actor’s work as Dewey.

But despite many commenters begging the account for a life update, none has been given – so far…
