James Corden has broken his silence after a New York restaurant owner labelled him the ‘most abusive customer’ in the venue’s history.

Keith McNally, the owner of French eatery Balthazar, called The Late Late Show host a ‘tiny cretin of a man’ and temporarily banned him from his restaurant for allegedly being rude to staff.

The Cats actor has now responded to the claims in an interview with The New York Times.

Speaking to the outlet while promoting his upcoming Amazon Prime series Mammals, journalist Dave Itzkoff asked the Gavin & Stacey star how he was feeling following the recent backlash.

“About what? What do you mean?” responded Corden.

He continued: “I haven’t really read anything. It’s strange. It’s strange when you were there. I think I’m probably going to have to talk about it on Monday’s show.

“My feeling, often, is, never explain, never complain. But I’ll probably have to talk about it.

“It feels like such a silly thing to talk about.”

Later in the interview, Itzkoff asked Corden if he wanted to still do the interview despite having all this bad press around him.

The Late Late Show host replied: “I haven’t done anything wrong, on any level.

“So why would I ever cancel this? I was there. I get it. I feel so zen about the whole thing.

“Because I think it’s so silly. I just think it’s beneath all of us. It’s beneath you. It’s certainly beneath your publication.”

McNally has also since spoken about the situation, admitting that he’s ‘feeling strange’ about the backlash Corden has been receiving.

In an Instagram photo of him accompanied by his daughter and her friend, he wrote: “Feeling strange about the James Corden thing.

“On the one hand, he was definitely abusive to my staff, on the other hand, I feel really sorry for him right now. Like most cowards, I want it both ways.

“F*** it, I’m going to get drunk.”

The incidents came to light in a social media post by McNally, where he detailed two incidents of Corden being rude to his staff.

The first one happened in June earlier this year when the comedian complained about having a hair in his dinner after he finished his meal.

The second incident occurred in October when Corden visited the restaurant with his wife.

She ordered an egg yolk omelette with gruyere cheese and salad.

However, Corden noticed there was a little bit of egg white mixed with the egg yolk and returned the meal.

However, when the staff did the meal again, they sent out fries instead of a salad.

“That’s when James Corden began yelling like crazy to the server: ‘You can’t do your job! You can’t do your job!’,” McNally revealed.

He continued: “‘Maybe I should go into the kitchen and cook the omelette myself!’. M.K. was very apologetic and brought G. over to the table.

“He returned the dish, and after that, everything was fine.

“G. said that Corden was pleasant to him but nasty to the server. M.K. was very shaken but professional that she is, continued to finish her shift.”

The presenter has been living in America since 2015 when he started hosting The Late Late Show.

However, earlier this year he announced that he will be stepping down from hosting the popular show once his contract expires.
